Trip Report - WARNING - Long Read

Love the pics and your daily hunt log. Sounds like you had an awesome trip. I’ve been on this forum living vicariously through everyone who is there or has gone. I leave Wednesday and hope to have similar success. Weather looking ok..could be colder but 40’s isn’t terrible

Johnson Sauk I get online and register for a spot every week 32 hours in advance or more. It appears green river is same deal. I show spots available

    Green river wildlife area

Thanks for reply. I looked at google earth. Definitely less timber. Wondering if any crops and if out. I like Johnson Sauk and usually do pretty well but until corn comes out it’s going to be tough.

    Green river wildlife area

Anybody hunt here for controlled pheasant. I normally go to Johnson Sauk trail but they have a ton of standing corn and birds a little harder to find.

Truck is loaded and ready to roll to SD!

Good luck and have fun. I’m heading out tomorrow after work. Hunting sat sun and Monday.

    Truck setup

Now that I look at it both back seat would have to be in down position to work

    Truck setup

I’m wondering how it would work to slide a piece of thin plywood between front seat and backseat along the driver door. That would block the exit when I open door and protect the door. Then do the same thing on passenger side except slide between consol and front seat and between the 60/40 split...

    Truck setup

Yes. 60/40. I’ve got carhartt seat covers and rubber floor mats. More worried about the initial excitement when they get in the truck and if it’s as wet as I’m hearing in SD my truck will be a muddy mess

    Truck setup

I have an F150 crew cab. My buddy and I both have a vizsla. We have always put 2 crates in back seat floor of truck for transport and hunting. Taking a hunting trip in a couple weeks and have a 3rd person joining us. Those 2 crates took up the entire back seat. Looking for ideas? I could fold up...

    Vest Recommendations

I’m in the market for a new vest as well. What do you recommend for someone who doesn’t want to break the bank. I only have a few requirements. 400sq inches of orange (live in Illinois). Prefer some shell loops. Would like a zip pocket or so for gps, etc. was considering gamehide pheasant A3o.

    First SD trip

Thanks for reply. Looks like there will be 3 of us and two vizslas. Plan is to head west maybe to Ipswich, Aberdeen area. Regardless of how many birds we see it will be a fun trip and good for the dogs.

    First SD trip

I was planning Lynn lake lodge but was discouraged to go to Webster. Told not as good as other areas and they just got a bunch more rain.

    First SD trip

Thanks carptom for the encouragement. Obviously I want to kill birds but as I’ve gotten older I’ve adjusted my mindset and expectations. I hunted all morning on a piece of public land here last year to see one pheasant that we didn’t get a shot at and went home happy. My dog was 4 months old and...

    First SD trip

Hunter94 I understand where you are coming from. Shoot pen raised at home or travel to shoot pen raised. Pen raised is essentially all I can hunt at home. I’m not hunting a lodge in SD where they are suppplemting wild bird population. I’m targeting public land. I don’t know about you but there...
