Camping with my daughter, fly fishing, mtn. biking with my daughter, fly fishing, hiking with my daughter, fly fishing, hang out with my daughter, fly fishing.......and fly fishing! Of course our boy "Cutter" goes where ever we go. :o
When it is all said and done, you should only go with those people that have disciplined dogs that can call their dogs off the retreive. If they can't do so you shouldn't hunt with them. If you do hunt with people that can control their dogs, set the rules before going into the field. If you are...
Hey phsnthntr,
I'm in Crested Butte. Not quite the western slope, but I have a Vizsla and enjoy getting him out to chase the wiley rooster as often as I can. I usually have time constraints that don't allow me to travel out of state very often. As a result I belong to a gun club in Delta...
Absolutely not. I use both commands, but I use the word "no" in a stern voice for general "don't do that" training. When I use the whoa command I use it in a much softer voice. In addition, I actually soften my voice while saying whoa as I approach my dog while he is locked up on point. By the...
It's obvious you have to work on the whoa command. No creeping allowed! If she truely knows the whoa command, it shouldn't take much more to reinforce it. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I would have her whoa on every thing she pointed. I also should have mentioned that I did use a check cord...
Hey Craig,
All I can say is repetition is the key. The one thing I did with my Vizsla was use the Whoa command ONLY when pointing something. I would only use it when it is associated with prey, that way they know when you use that word, it is only associated with a bird and it is game on (no...
For some reason, I don't know why, I wound up keeping the Oster and used it for roughly 20 years. I didn't have a sharpening shop nearby so I would by new clipper heads. I can't tell you what iit would cost to sharpen the heads, but for me it was easier to just buy new ones when needed.
Hope...
Field cutting your dog's coat is the only way to go. The key to your dogs comfort is not to allow the burrs to attach in the first place. There is really no other way to accomplish this other than cutting the hair short enough so the burrs won't attach to it. I went through prepping my Springers...
Yeah, I have the EMT gel too, but all of the areas I have used it are where he can get at it. I apply it only to have him lick it off completely in a matter of minutes. What do you guys do to curb your dogs from licking all of the gel off?
Paul
When I had Springers I sprung for and used both Andis and Oster. Both did a great job. Don't go buy the $49.00 model at the discount store. I did that before buying the professional models and wound up throwing them away when they stopped working. I spent roughly $150.00-$170.00. If you are only...
If any of you can show me where the free hunting is, I'm in.
Since when do any of us NOT pay to hunt anything. Every one of us pays to hunt. It's just a matter of what each of us can afford and are willing to pay. My clothes may be dirty and grubby, but I am willing to spend money to travel...
