    Where's everybody at?

I am one of those Indiana hunters you mentioned and we are headed out for our annual trip around Winner tomorrow. Hope to have some luck. Wish the temps were better but it is what it is.

    Crops around Winner

My group is headed out towards winner tomorrow and we plan to hunt next week. I was wondering what the crops look like out there. Are they coming out quick?

    WILD quail hunting

I would not drive from Minnesota to Indiana to hunt quail. Are there quail to hunt? Yes if you put the time in but you drive by far better states on the way. I would go to Kansas long before Indiana.

    I shot a hen!

It is not your position to decide whether or not they have bigger issues to deal with. Using that logic, why even have the law. You notify the CO and let them decide.

    I shot a hen!

Accidents happen and you man up and do the right thing and hope the officer understands. Failure to do so, is wanton waste and will lead to an even bigger citation if caught. It is also unethical to shoot a bird and leave it lay. Hell these days, you never know who is watching and you may...

Is there a demand for no frills hunting lodge in Winner?

I would not even entertain $35 a night. If a hunter is driving all that way and not willing to pay $50 a night, I doubt you want him staying there anyways. It needs to be a mutually beneficial relationship to be sustainable. I have stayed in some real rough places. I would happily pay...

Is there a demand for no frills hunting lodge in Winner?

The lodging options are very limited around winner. A decent place to rent would be a plus. Especially, if you worked with the reservation to provide places for clients. Having said all that, I would think the window would be so compressed that I am not sure it would be a real profitable...

    Hunting suggestions

I would like to visit Kansas again this fall. I was out around the Stockton area several years ago and it was tough going. I would like to get back out to Kansas to hunt for quail and pheasant. Given a choice, I would probably lean towards good quail numbers more that pheasant but I also...

    Places to stay in winner

I am not real familiar with him because we have always been fairly self sufficient but some things changed and now we are looking for lodging alternatives. Thanks for the info.

    Places to stay in winner

My group has been traveling to the winner area to pheasant hunt the last several years. Decent lodging seems to always be a challenge. We are looking for a place to stay for about 6 people and 2-3 dogs. Ideally, it would have a kitchen, bathroom and place for six people to stay. Does anyone...

    Winner lodging

Thanks for the insight. I will give them a try. Not is a shame there are not better options in the area.

    Winner lodging

Any suggestions for decent lodging in the winner area for about 6 pheasant hunters? Had a bad experience last year and looking for alternatives. Not real crazy about the hotels in the area either. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

    South Dakota Game Stop

I am glad to see these checks. Everyone talks about how much they hate poachers and how they never see law enforcement and then they make a presence and people complain. Follow the laws and you will not have an issue. The reality is there are very few officers to patrol a large area and this...

Avian Bird Flu or possible UFO abduction.

Avian influenza is pretty deadly in a poultry facility or enclosed area. I highly doubt that there is any widespread impact on pheasant in the wild. Hard to say what is going on though.

    New Hunter

Hunting without a dog is doable but you have to change your tactics. I prefer to stick to smaller areas along the edge of cover. I walk slowly and stop frequently to get birds to flush. Birds will get nervous and flush if you stop or change things up. Try and avoid large CRP fields and stick...
