A few Pheasants from around the world

Pretty awesome bird. BUT, anyone that pointed their muzzle down toward my dog on point would have been removed from the situation before the flush occurred...inexcusable safety fail.

I've never hunted in Hettinger....but in driving through it seems like "Cannonball" has leased & posted everything!!

which hunt test is the best for hunting dogs?

HRC tries to present a more realistic hunting setup as compared to AKC. In addition, the also offer an upland test...since this is a pheasant forum. Training for advanced AKC tests does greatly enhance your dog's skills and your teamwork together. http://www.huntingretrieverclub.org/# God...

    When I grieve, I write...

Crockett. I, along with the others, grieve with you from the terminal story you have shared. I thank you for the tribute you have shared. You blessed her memory through the extensive photo documentation you painstakingly took the time to create, it will lift you at low points in the future...

Jerry's knees look shot even back then! He's really hobbling now...saw him in the airport recently.

What to legally do with a hen!

As a kid in MN hunting with my dad, uncle and cousins, a hen flushed and hit a high wire. Warden saw it happen, and there was coincidental shooting at some roosters. Warden came out and gave everyone a shakedown...pretty scarey for a young kid who's Dad was super ethical. After the shakedown...

Doesn't Get Any Better Than This

Thanks for sharing Zeb, very touching story. I had a solo hunt yesterday where my dog made two pheasant retrieves out of the cattails breaking ice the whole time...second bird of a double was a blind retrieve through the ice and cattails. Most dogs couldn't have retrieved either bird...I...

    Everyones Input Please

What is this "Tune Up" of which you speak? There are 2 seasons. Training season and hunting season. If you want a superb dog, it's a year round journey. Besides, your best friend deserves it. A dog that gets 50 stimulations in a days hunt has not been trained...it does not understand the...

    Waterfowl

Not sure where the impression that duck hunter numbers has increased comes from. The USFWS says in the last 15 years duck stamp sales have dropped 20% on a national basis. Canada waterfowler numbers are down 70% over the last 15 years. They believe the "casual" duck hunter is now choosing...

    Limited hunting

Grew up in Western MN hunting ducks and pheasants. Phez are my favorite, and also my dog's. But, between bird numbers and access where I live, I tend to do more duck hunting than roosters. I wish I could drive a few miles with only a vest, gun, and dog and shoot my three birds while getting...

Picking the Right One - Trust What or Who?

Since you mentioned MI, I would second a visit to Hunter's Rose Kennels (http://huntersrosekennel.homestead.com/) ...excellent pointing labs with all the health clearances. You might also want to check out another small MI breeder that has a sire with a great nose named Gator. He's a one...
