    Starting my new dog

cat sharp? meaning cats are for chasing ,not kissing I'm not a cat hater, seems to indicate a strong prey drive. I"d work in the cap gun fairly early, the bonding scenario is a good plan too

    Remington 2014

    Rabbit and squirrel

the blm land around Craig holds a lot of bunnies when the cycle is up. Rabbits are cyclical, some years they're thick, the same place next year is empty. I know Craig is farther then you wanted to go but it 'll be a nice chance to try or perfect your winter camping. nobody would be there...

    Deutscher Wachtelhund

put another way: if we would kill the big game instead of wound it, it would be a lot easier to recover. when we need the dog to track our wounded deer or elk, its not a happy day. actually never had to do it. seems like in researching this breed that was mentioned often,"tracking derbies or...

    Deutscher Wachtelhund

a German springer. one of their traits is tracking wounded big game. seems like their owners really focus on that aspect of their training. all versatile hunting dogs are supposed to be able to track wounded big game, for recovery but it doesn't seem to come up that often in this country

    Perfect hunting SUV

I keep threatening to trade in my 3/4 ton dodge for a Subaru, myself. there's a lot more snowy highway driving then serious jeeping , for the most part. there all wheel drive system is safer on partially slick roads then part time 4 wd. that matters when its a 4 hr drive home. we had a 92 we...

    Training question, no bird drive

''Stalk I get, what does kill the bird mean". I'm kind of a duffer in this dog training thing, but the pointers, we want them to do the arrested stalk known as a point, and never believe they can catch the bird. you can see the dilemma when the dog learns to point the bird and then immediately...

    Huns in Colorado?

south Dakota yes. probably north Dakota as well. The Canadian prairie provinces are supposed to be good for Huns, and the Canadian woods full of ruffs

    Plott Hound?

there was a "black Russian" boar running amok in the country side and a single shot 45/70,trap door spring field, a carbine it think. the front sight had been removed and "upgraded" with a piece of a silver dollar,so you could see it in the gloom.(paraphrasing the book)

    Rain,Rain,Rain

hickenlooper said if it had been snow ,we would have got 100 inches. I guess prayin' to break the drought worked pretty good. just heard some more flash flood warnings about an hour ago i'm going to the neighbors hot spot tomorrow he says is full of blue grouse and turkeys, "covered up" as they...

    Colorado Sharptail

the good sharp tail coverts are on private land, from my experience Columbian sharp tails, yes near Hayden public land cattle tanks or improved springs are just mud puddles, private land brimming full, that seems to matter, just better forage on private land

    Lesser Prairie Chicken

one idea about those windmills is they disturb the wind patterns and air currents on the prairie, one or 2 here or there would not be a problem, dozens lined up? don't know. every one of those wind mills has a cooling system built into them, we don't destroy heat energy, we move it from one...
