With the crops out and snow on the ground, I'm thinking any pieces of public land with CRP/Cattails would be perfect. The birds are hanging around those vital pieces of cover right now.
As stupid as this may sound (and I've hunted pheasants for about 12 years now, which only makes me feel even more stupid for just realizing this), it took a local pheasant hunt yesterday for me to fully realize just how important quality habitat is to improve bird numbers.

Anyone (aside from first time/youth hunters) shooting a .410 regularly for pheasants? I'm debating about taking out my great-grandpa's old bolt action for a hunt or two before the season's out.
It's understandable, definitely. But it's also possible to fall absolutely in love with a product and not be a sales rep. Just want to clarify that. ;)

It was an excellent piece of film, that's for sure. However, I have serious doubts about that young married couple that bought a shotgun in Cabelas. :rolleyes:
That's another good point. I haven't been up towards the Watertown area in a couple weekends, but, with the snow, I have to imagine road hunting is the best way to go.
As to the best cities with public land around them, Mitchell is probably your best bet.
