I would agrre, sounds as though the dog needs more attention. An hour a day is not much attention.

Try making noise a good thing. I started banging on some pots while the dog would eat and then would shoot my sons cap gun after a little while. I have young kids so there is always noise but focused the louder noises while he ate. In the field you may need to take a step back to a 22 cap gun...

Let the pup be a pup. Would try and introduce birds to him, but keep it fun in the beginning. Don't pressure him. I used pigeons with my pup as you can lock their wings. Mine wasn't overly interested but wasn't scared either. I put some chukars in a field and he had a blast.
