    French Brittany Thoughts?

French Brits are awesome bird dogs. Grew up with American Brits, but I'm sold on the French version. Compact dogs, that have as much or more drive than any other breed I've hunted around. Other than maybe a springer. Out hunted and out lasted any vizsla, german, english, or lab I've hunted with...

    Thinking at changing breeds

Had American and French Brit’s. They have both been good, but I would say I prefer the French Britts. Hunted with numerous guys with other dogs and they are amazed with their drive.

    3 days in South Dakota

Yes, can’t argue with you there, 3 days isn’t enough time to make an accurate judgement of the entire state. I was was just really surprised at the number of pay to play outfits that released pen raised birds and the lack of good cover, particularly in the ditches. Hopefully make it back someday...

    3 days in South Dakota

Just wrapped up a 3 day trip to South Dakota, 6 guys, 4 dogs hunted mostly public and some prime private part of the last day, also had great weather for hunting. We spent most of our time between mobridge/redfield/Pierre. Have to say I was very disappointed, we did not see near the pheasants...

Better than last year in the SW

That is great to hear, thanks for the report. I am headed out around the Lemmon area later this season for the first time. Looking forward to the trip.

The only good news to report.....

We hunted the central part of the state, bird numbers were definitely down. Hunted all public and got into decent amount of birds, I would say around 40 or so throughout the day. Dogs tore it up, all 3 of us limited on roosters by noon. Most the roosters were this years hatch, I would say 7 of...

    Hunting near Lemmon

Headed out that way the end of November for the first time, we have some private access lined up on the grand river, and probably mix in some public access spots a day or two. Huns and sharp tails sound like they could be a bonus, but really focusing on finding roosters. Sounds like numbers are...

    How was the opener

Just got back from 3 days in the southwest portion of the state. Nice weather, Pretty tough hunting, not near as many birds as I expected. Quite a few hunters out hunting. 3 of of us with 2 dogs ended up getting 12 birds in 2 1/2 days of hard hunting. Not sure what to think, for a supposed...

    How was the opener

Hey thanks for taking the time to respond, I appreciate the update. Glad you had a good opener. Looking forward to our first trip out to Nebraska. Hopefully we can make the most of it, and get into a few birds. Sounds like I need to throw in the 22-250.

    How was the opener

Heading out for a couple days of pheasant hunting in the southwest portion of the state. Curious how the first couple days of the season have been.

    Opener.

Sweet gun isn't it. I picked one up too and my rooster knock down percentage went way up. Just feels right, follow up shots are fast and accurate. Headed up to crested butte lodge just east of Hettinger for a few days next week with my uncle and old man. I hope we get into a few birds. All the...

    Opener.

Dang, that's a bummer to hear. What part of the state were you in. I'm trying to make my first trip out this November around Hettinger, but all these poor reports have me second guessing myself.

    Drought

These thunderstorms have got to be helping the pheasants out, particularly in the southwest.
