Hunting Jack Rabbits with a Golden Eagle

Maybe a dumb question, but what are they usually killed by? Collisions with objects, or??

Hey Jeff! Where'd you get that Red Dog? Is he a good one? I live in MN also and have a 10 yr old red. Got him from Berg Bros. Great dog. Maybe a little too high test, but super dog in the house and just a great all-round dog. I live too far from good bird country (SE MN and pheasant...

12 ga Loads for a Mixed Bag

I mostly hunt pheasants, and with my SxS imp cyl (1st shot) 12 ga I have killed a lot of birds with 7 1/2's. Never a problem! I do hunt pointers so the shots are usually close(r). Nowadays i almost exclusively use steel shot and in my 20 ga SxS i usually use #3's followed by a #2. Haven't...

What do I need to be legal?

Licenses needed Jhart - make sure you look over the Nebraska site carefully. In addition to the Hunting permit (license) i"m pretty sure you need a Habitat stamp and maybe??? one other thing. For sure the stamp. I think it will run you around $100 total. Good luck.

    non-toxic beginner

By the way, I wasn't meaning to call anyone out on this , especially wisturkeyhunter. I guess my point is, why not. Lead has it's issues, non-tox has been required for years on waterfowl and there's been a whole lotta ducks and geese killed with it, and it's required in so many places that...

    non-toxic beginner

why wouldn't you? wisturkey hunter maybe because using non-tox really IS the right thing to do! Lead is nasty stuff. I'll admit to still using it myself, but rarely. My concern isn't really about birds ingesting it off the ground, I don't think that's a big issue. In my mind a bigger...

Fiochi 28 Gauge Golden Pheasant #6

Glad to know I'm not the only one to have a problem - well, kind of. Seems like the batches must be inconsistent in my mind. Both of my guns (1100 Rem. and the 12 ga SxS) are close to 40 years old with thousands of rounds thru them and the Fiochi's are the only shells I've ever had problems...

    Gun smith in my area

There's a pretty good one about an hour west of the Metro near Winsted. His name is Frank Habisch, I think the business is Habisch Outdoors. Don't have the number handy but you can probably find it under his home phone if nothing else. Winsted or Lester Prairie phone.

Fiochi 28 Gauge Golden Pheasant #6

Seems like a good buy, but.... I have only bought one box of the Fiochi (Golden Pheasant) and the hulls or brass swelled so much after shooting that they would jam in my Rem 1100 (which has been ultra-reliable - never jams) and when I shot them in my SxS with extractors I could barely pull them...

    Lost Wirehair: Wagner SD 12/27/15

reddog - I'm really glad to hear your friend found their dog and nice to see all the well wishes from most folks on here. Can't say the same (or much good) about bobman's post though! bobman - Really! The best you can do is call the guy a dunce! First off, he stated that the guy he loaned it...

    First timer maybe

Hi Dan, if you want to make a Jan. trip your options are pretty limited. Either Kansas or Nebraska is about it. I have hunted both (Kansas only once last year and it was tough). Bird numbers have been way down in both states for a few years. Habitat related like everywhere, but they really...

    2015-16 Hunting Reports & Pictures

Lovenstein - no problem giving the "first hand account". I know what you mean when you say "Damn dog means the world to me". Mine too! Probably most others on here too! That period of time between the first vet visit and post-surgery good news was Hell! Hope yours turns out fine. Good luck.

    2015-16 Hunting Reports & Pictures

Lovenstein - I wouldn't wait either. Go to the vet. It may be nothing, but.... My red setter had a large lump on his side last winter and they weren't sure what it was. Thought it might be cancer. Well, they removed it and inside a large lump of scar tissue they found two tiny grass awns...
