    Gettin' the heck outa Dodge!!

Great Bend I just got back from a 2 day trip around Great Bend where we hunt private and public land. Luckily, we did have private land to hunt because otherwise we would have been in trouble. All of the CRP contracts expired last year in the area which were not renewed. Some of the best fields...

    WIHA acreage expansion ideas...

KS CRP Program First, I want to thank everyone for putting together such an informative thread about how to improve the WIHA program. I currently live in Colorado and spend as much time chasin birds in CO and KS as my wife and daughter will allow, and up until last year, CO hunters paid a $20...

If you want to hunt go to KS, if you want to hike stay in CO

A few pics Friday we shot 11 between the 3 of us (only 10 in the pic as my brother cleaned one already). Saturday we got 12 (no pics), and Sunday we only hunted for a couple of hours and shot 9.

If you want to hunt go to KS, if you want to hike stay in CO

I didn't say the birds were always within shooting range, but when its -4 outside shooting a few rounds of 12 gauge will warm you right up, and you just never know I have made some long range shots in my day just getting lead in the air at a bird that should have been out of range.

If you want to hunt go to KS, if you want to hike stay in CO

Just got back from the Larned area for 3 days. My brother and Dad in Kansas City go out there twice a year to hunt private land. In three days of hunting central KS I bagged as many birds as I did all year in CO. This year was wonderful compared to last year in CO but damn does Kansas put our...

My hunting partners all have to work and I am trying to get a quite week day hunt in while the wife is working and Grandma is in town watching our daughter :). If anyone...

    Eliminating Walk In Access Stamp

I read recently in the Denver Post about thousands of CRP acres expiring in Colorado due to the state budget crisis. However, the article stating WIA stamps will be free while more acres fall out of the CRP program just does not add up. If they can not afford to pay landowners for enrolling...

    Opening day!!!!!!

Opening day treated us well but my poor shooting had me frustrated all day. I only came home with one and should have came home with my limit. I have never seen so many hunters before. Seriously there were spots that looked like the parking lot at a Broncos game. With groups of 10 plus walking...

New to the forum & the sport & need help

Dead is dead and the caliber is not important. Although typically smaller and faster rounds are used such as 22/250 or .243. I will not say where I live in Parker but I shoot them all the time across the street from my house with a .17. Yip Yip and boom.

    Scouting

Those crops being harvested sure will help. All of the birds I flushed today flew straight into the crops. I would prefer they have less places to hide. On a lighter note, hearing those 747's take off sure was awesome! Damn I have missed that. It was so weird walking around today without a gun...

    Scouting

Just got home from South Sedgewick county and the corn was still out in all areas but a few. Good news is we kicked up 10 or so roosters and the habitat looks great. Not dry at all and actually quite wet in some areas. Knocked on 5 doors today and not one answer is the bad news. Seriously it was...
