    Why not Minot?

You will also do "ok" between Hwys 83 & 52 - NW of Minot. And you won't have much company except for the "camo boys" on air raid patrol with their anti-aircraft howitzers and binoculars.

    Why not Minot?

And I would gladly join Gumboot and become a martyr for this most noble cause - please let me know what cafe to meet at - breakfast is on me!

    Why not Minot?

Draw a straight line between Fargo and Minot and to the Canada border. If you hunt SW of this line most(but not all) hunters have a reasonable chance at a 3 bird day until you reach the SW corner of ND where 3 birds is almost a given usually in less than 3 hours of hunting. If you hunt NE of...

    Not good news for CRP

I just got turned down on re-enrolling in the General Signup. Even though I added the extra plantings of insect producing flowers. Going to apply for Continuous-CRP. Here's the ONLY solution to this unreliable CRP mess we have: We the People(OUR Federal Government) should buy 60 million acres...

    Quial opener

Here's the report: Hunted out of Needles, CA - just north of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Feb 3-7(5 days) Saw quail everyday around towns, developments, and houses - the bird watchers draw them away from huntable areas with an obsession with feeding them - I don't agree with this practice but it is...

So cold and dry helps concentrate the Gambels? With pheasants, all of the following help bunch up the birds: 1. COLD - really cold! 2. Rain - never tried hunting in a full-blown thunder storm though 3. Snow - but 2-3 feet is asking to much. Ideal: 1-4 inches 4. WIND - big wind - 30 mph+ is doable

Thanks, Quailhound..... Just got back from 8 day pheasant hunt in ND/MT. Yup, that's what I learned about CA quail - they'll take the easy feed that Grandma provides but do just fine without it in complete desolation also. I'll be staying in Needles, CA mostly because the motel had a good...

    Quial opener

I saw loads of them on a golf course west of Phoenix in April of 2014. Are they becoming a creature of the civilized world, gravitating to the "easy life" around handouts? Or are they just as numerous and common in rural desolation? RK

Thanks guys.............will try to remember to give a report. Will be attempting to climb the "learning curve". Usually takes at least 2-3 days...........sometimes much longer(a pair of boots?) I call it "finding traction in the uplands". RK

jmac, Thank you much. How about the Bullhead City/Kingman/Lake Havasu City triangle? In other words, just east of Needles, CA over to Hwy 93? RK

I'll be going after gambel's the last week of the season(Feb 1 - 7). My first venture to Arizona. Have hunted valley quail in Idaho the last 3 years. Thinking about starting out in the Wickenburg area - anyone have any experience in that general area. How big of a concern are the snakes? Any...

December pheasant hunting should not be allowed.

More reliable: Pick up a bird with your fingers by the bottom beak. Let it hang for a second or two. If that bottom beak bends, it is a spring bird. If it stays sturdy and does not bend even with a bit of bouncing, it is a 2-year old bird. And the chance that it is 3 years old is less than 1 in...

December pheasant hunting should not be allowed.

I will also add this axiom: Where there are LOTS of birds, there is LOTS of hunting pressure. Where there are VERY few birds, hunting pressure is extremely light. We don't see huge caravans of out-of-state hunters filling up motels in Missouri all for a chance to get one of those last five...

December pheasant hunting should not be allowed.

Refuge issue: If birds are pushed, DURING THE CURRENT SEASON, into adjacent refuge property with poor habitat, there will be more birds there at the END OF THE CURRENT SEASON. But NOT after 5 years at THE BEGINNING OF THAT 5th SEASON. If birds are pushed, DURING THE CURRENT SEASON(and...
