    She Died On Sunday. 11/18/2018

I just returned from my annual trip to South Dakota 11/4 through 11/13. This year I brought my almost 13 year old lab Sadie with us to South Dakota. She was not there to hunt but just to spend time in the hotel room and no be left home alone in the kennel. I knew that she did not have long left...

    Opening Day

On Saturday October 15, 2016 it was the opener of the pheasant hunt in Idaho.* I loaded the dogs into the back of the truck, at 4:00 AM and headed north.* We arrived at the first field, that I wanted to hunt, shortly after sunrise.* It had been raining most of the morning as I drove so after two...

    My First Rooster

As another pheasants season winds down I sit at a warm computer and reminisce. I have been hunting pheasants for a little over 25 years now. I remember the first rooster like it was yesterday. Dad handed me his 16 gauge shotgun it was an old Winchester that had the exposed hammer. He said...

    Last Call

Last Call South Dakota November 2013 We pulled the truck into a game production area at about 4:00 pm. It was a little GPA, not more than a quarter section, not very promising looking, cover was thin and no crops had been planted on the place. It's an out of the way hunting spot, not close...

    Youth Pheasant Hunt

Spent another day in the field on Saturday Oct 26. We found one large covey of Quail 30+ birds and two small coveys of huns. No pheasants but we were really not in their preferred habitat. Had a nice day got some shooting in. What more could a guy ask for?

    Youth Pheasant Hunt

I will answer my own question. My son and I hunted all day 10/6/2013 we flushed approx. 20 pheasants. None of the roosters had enough color to identify as roosters but some of them cackled as they took off. My son being a first year hunter never seemed to be in the right position to even take...

    Youth Pheasant Hunt

So does anyone have an opinion on pheasant numbers this year? My son and I are considering a trip to Idaho in the morning to see if he can get his first rooster. I have a few public spots around Burley where I have seen a few birds in the past but just wanted to know if anybody has been seeing...

BEAUTIFUL Felt like I was there, watching the rooster fall as the ducks exploded upward.

Thanks for the info on the identification. I was not sure how to positively ID them. I would like to try for some gambles some time. Quail are so fun to hunt and hard for me to hit. Plus the desert habitat can be very interesting to walk never know what I will find out there.

    Saturday 12/22/2012

That is half the fun of hunting for me. I love trying new spots feels like I am exploring. Birds are just the excuse to watch the dogs work and seeing some of this beautiful planet. Good luck on wednesday.

I think it is a valley quail. But there was a little reddish color to the top of his head. I would not have expected the area I hunted to have gambles quail.

    Saturday 12/22/2012

Hunted more public ground on Saturday. We had a great day! Walked miles of tough looking cover and moved birds off of every piece. Nice mixed bag, we harvested quail, pheasants and huns. It was fun not knowing what we were going to flush next. One encouraging note; as we were driving to a...

    Nice Hunt Last Wednesday

My cousin and I made a day trip to Idaho on Wednesday. Had a good day, nice weather, and good company. We saw 6 pheasants all roosters on public ground. We managed to bag 3 between us. Pretty good dog work all day long. We also saw a covey of huns about 20 birds in the group but a gun...
