    175 acres.. what to do?

come on clone, can't be blacking out the road names. we need to do a physical inspection of the place to give you our advice lol. I would look at native grasses (crp enrollment), 10% for food plots, cut trees that may be used by perched predators for a start. good luck with your habitat...

    Opening weekend reports?

My thoughts exactly Bob! Been waiting on reports but very few reporting. Maybe Friday and this weekend more will post about their trips after returning home. Nice to hear that bird #'s may be improved Jim. You sure that those barrels weren't bent a little.:D

    Very disapointed in Sportsman!!!!!

Ford, those are some bad instances that could have ended up much worse. Good on you for keeping your wits about you. Unfortunately, this "behavior" is becoming more and more prevalent with each passing year it seems. Not only in the hunting fields, but life in general. "The season...

Roosters with Dad (resized the jumbo photos)

That is a good recipe that can be used on fish also. I bake my sea trout and flounder that way with variations of temp and time of course. Delicious!!! I'll have to try on pheasant. Good write up and enjoy those moments with your pops.

Hello upland, Htown Texas here. You will enjoy Mobridge. We did that area one year and had a blast. We stayed along the river at a fishing cabin and hunted right in the backyard. River was low and we hunted around it quite a bit on mostly public land. Did you get drawn for your non...

    A trip to Pierre

We used to hunt around Pierre exclusively on all public and did great. It was hectic the first weekend but during the week it was fine. I noticed as soon as Iowa and Kansas had the down years, it got super packed and continuously around Pierre. The last few years, it has been flat out stupid...

2015 South Dakota Crop Harvest Reports

Thanks for the reports Meridian; keep them coming. I'm hoping that the lush vegetation this year skewed the numbers toward the low side just as the drought years were skewed toward the high numbers. Getting antsy. Few days to take off.

    Sandhill cranes??

I've hunted a lot in that area also and never recall seeing or hearing sandhills. Wind must have blown them off course, lol. You must have hit the mother lode to find 7 pheasants that fast in Scott county. Hearing some good things from my friends in Iowa this fall.

    what would u do?

Opening day SD is totally like that as Big Rand mentioned. Our first time to SD on opening day and we got up super early and scouted lots of walk ins and GPA's. Decided on a spot around 9 and waited till noon. 10 minutes before shooting time, here come three locals. Three generation family...

Anyone hunt near Britton / Hecla?

Have hunted those areas in the past quite a bit. I always wear rubber boots due to all the water in the fields. Lots of cattails in the area.

    throwing some cold water

They'll give up soon enough and leave the rest for the die hard hunters. Still need a few years of easy winters and good spring conditions to get back to decent #'s. We really need to see some habitat "going in" vs. "coming out".
