    Lodging/Eating Recommendations

Forgot to mention the eating spots. You got the place on the corner or the pizza joint. The dude on the sidewalk recommended the pizza joint. You may want to try the spot on the corner. We had the pizza specials. One was basically a Supreme. That was ok. The other was their version of a...

    Lodging/Eating Recommendations

Awe yes, the Derrick Inn. What a welcome we had. The fresh scent of inscents burning welcomes you after a long hard day of hunting. After paying up at the front desk with the nice lady with a baby on the tit, we made our way upstairs, dog and all. Keep your boots on, as the carpeted floors...

Best lead shell for 12 ga. on wild pheasants

Fuchie Golden Pheasant in 5 or 6 pending weather/time of year. Patterns great in my O/U. I prefer plated lead as I believe it patterns more consistent, cleaner, doesn't feather wad and has a deeper penetration. Patterning your gun/choke and load is pretty important.

    Tent Camping in November

If really cold, sleep with a beenie on or a hoody. Cooking can be a challenge. A good jet boil stove works great for morning joe. I am assuming you will be staying in the state parks, so a campfire would be in order as well as a good stiff drink. Sounds like a great time.

    Upland Forecast

Odd thing is, those WIHA's fields next to CSA that I have hunted, not a single bird flushed. Dogs never got birdie either. Would of thought they would be overloaded. Wonder if KS CSA birds also has to marked?

    Dog boots

The tire tube works well for sand burrs.

What is the best pair of boots you ever owned for hunting pheasants?

I use the LL Bean upland boots. Latest pair is the BOA system. Broke in fit out of the box, great customer support. They do wear fairly quick, but seems the other brands I have worn do as well. Hunt mostly CRP. Really dig the BOA system.

    midseason reports

Thank you DD74 for taking the above advice. I used to hunt an area of the state for at least 20 years with great success multiple times during the season. Hours and hours in the field and new all the honey holes and how the birds used different areas during different times. A member of this...

    Best steak in Kansas?

Gonna be bee bopping around North/Central West/Central later this month with the youngsters, well, not as young as they once where. Will have one newbie for sure, maybe two. I have seen posted here before of a really good restruant/steak place somewhere in that area that you need to make...

    Truck/Van Rental

If the roads are not wet, then they are dusty. Ever thing in the back of an open truck bed will be covered in dust. Big SUV that you can fit dog crates in or the mini van. Good luck.

    Raise out of state fees!!

Kansas, don't become Texas. Only the well to do have the ground to hunt. I too have seen many of the WIHA's become leased for the few. Perhaps Texans to Kansas are the Hondurans to the US. K2 BTW, I get it about ya'll being pissed about OSH's. Seems to be a problem when bird numbers suck.
