    Training question, no bird drive

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and opinions. We would agree, and don't plan to have him eat it. We'll keep getting him on birds every week and working daily with him. He's come a long ways in 3 weeks already.

    Training question, no bird drive

You mean the forced eating thing, just to be clear? I agree, if he does not want to eat it why make him, and would it create a worse habit later by having a hard mouth? That's why I am asking for thoughts and opinions. No matter which trainer I choose, or anyone else does, there are going to...

    Training question, no bird drive

If you look at my link, originally he showed zero interest in birds. His 3 year older sister I think "trained" him that she would find the bird first and he was to hang back...my mistake, I never took him alone, always with her. So fast forward, found a great trainer that I really like, great...

    Training question, no bird drive

My now 9-month GSP has been working in the field and now understands his nose, and points the birds. http://www.ultimatepheasanthunting.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14396 But...the training wants him to actually gut/eat a bird to get that blood-lust in him. I'm not sure how I feel about, but...

Thank you! Finding someplace to train with him is my issue now.

    6 month GSP seems lazy

Thank, that useful info, I'll try and find a chapter, really had no idea.

    6 month GSP seems lazy

Bottom line is I can't do all that as a city boy surrounded by private land. If I head to the mountains then I'm on Forest land and can only use pigeons. And not sure how you get private club access for that price, out here it is $500+ annual + birds, more than I can afford. He's a pet and...

    Pigeons or live birds

Thanks, can I just take them anywhere and plant them? Kind of green at this...don't think we can shoot, but maybe blanks?

    Pigeons or live birds

Anyone know where I can get my pup on some live birds (pigeons) close to Thornton? He's 6 months old and I want to start getting that natural drive going in him, he's being lazy and letting his big sister take the lead. Thanks!

    6 month GSP seems lazy

Getting him on live bird is so hard right now, they are hard to get for us city boys , but I can see he has the live animal drive. My older one is the same with balls, won't touch a tennis ball, it has to be the bright orange chuckit balls or she has no interest. Ruger (my pup) has a lot...

    6 month GSP seems lazy

I haven't tried him on birds yet, but he did run up on some baby Killdeer and parents, and stalked one. I thought he was still too young to worry, just wanted to make sure. Mmelton, not during training but definitely playing and running at the park. He may just be waiting to see what she does...

    6 month GSP seems lazy

Hi all, my second GSP is almost 6 months, and will not go far in chasing balls, or really anything, and does not seem to have much interest in using his nose. A wing on a pole he goes nuts for, but not enough to really go hunting for it, and rarely stops to point it. When we take them both out...

GSP pup, male or female opinions

Thanks, great info. Did the first dog ever socialize with other dogs and show dominance? Our first (Bella) is not dominant to other dogs, and will run and play with or without them, doesn't seem to care.

GSP pup, male or female opinions

Looking to get our second GSP, we have a 3 year old female. We are 4th on the pick list and only 3 females, so we may do a male. Anyone have opinions on the difference between the sexes? A little background: Our first is a family member, inside crate trained, lap dog first. She hunts with us...

    Brutal hunting

I've seen the same thing, nothing but a few hens...need the hens, but want to get the GSP on some roosters and not seeing anything, even road birds.
