    blizzard could be bad....

I think that the birds faired pretty well through this storm. I saw several dozen birds (both hens and roosters) on my drive to work this morning. The storm even had the coyotes moving around at first light - there is one less to harass the pheasants after this morning. It's going to be a good...

    Brood2Rooster

UGUIDE, What do you do with this type of plot in the spring? Disc it all under? Combine it? We had too much grain leftover from last years plots that it ruined this years crop. Had we been more patient, we would have let it emerge then sprayed it dead, but it didn't start growing until we...

2017 New Pheasant Hunting Forecast Report

Has anyone spoke to the farmers/ranchers who cut portions of their CRP this year? I think that would be much more accurate information on how the bird numbers are. As I drove to work one morning last week I noticed 4 separate broods of young pheasants in a 2 mile stretch. That was much more...

Looking to get a handheld dummy launcher

I have and use the Retriev-R-Launcher. I like that it incorporates the sound of a shot and the bird falling. A word of caution... don't have your dog on heal the first time you fire it off. It is quite and alarmed my 6 month old even after he had been around gun fire.

    Recent Weather

We had about a half inch of rain Sunday. When it thaws again (probably Tuesday or Wednesday) it's going to get muddy. The little bit of snow that was left is rock-solid now. No blowing or drifting as we didn't get any new snow. Hope that helps and good luck. SDRAT

Changing attitude about pay to hunt ?

I have not followed the MN initiative much at all. The logistics of defining, maintaining/policing and paying are all labor intensive and very hard for most farmers to see the importance of. SDRAT

Changing attitude about pay to hunt ?

I think that SD could follow some of the direction that Dayton did in MN with buffers. I'm not sure of the exact solution, but the idea of either forcing or enticing the operator to leave some grass buffers around waterways and fencelines would go a long ways. Tiling has done away with so much...

Semi Auto lube in cold temps

I took some advice from a gunsmith and have used Marvels Mystery Oil (just a couple drops) in my Benelli for years. A quart is probably the smallest qty to buy it and should last decades!
