    NW Kansas Bad

We eventually got into birds in a very unlikely location. It was hard work but they were out there. Definitely worse than years past but not as scary as most people make it out to be.

    NW Kansas Bad

A lot of scouting and hunting. Drove by a bunch of fields that looked as bad as people said and stepped out let the dogs run and turned around and hopped back in the truck. Some properties were quarter sections where only a small fraction of the land was huntable! But others have had some...

    NW Kansas Bad

Not necessarily...I'm hunting around Goodland today and tomorrow. It's rough!!!! We hunted a good 20 WIHA properties. 2 guys and 3 dogs (2 drathars, 1 GSP) and we saw 2 hens today. We scared up two mule deer and found a couple skulls and racks. We actually saw birds back south towards Dodge...

The offseason life of a Shorthair

That looks like mine too, only she likes to lay on top of us in that pose. It's been 40 something days of 100+ heat here in Dallas, so not much outdoor work for the pup.

    Cooler weather

We need some cooler weather down in Texas too. It's been over 100 degrees for like 40 straight days and finally missed hitting the mark yesterday. Can't even take my dog to the pond and toss a bumper for her to swim because it's too hot.

    Drought Index

Flew over SE Colorado/SW Kansas today. About 50-100 miles west of Liberal. Looked like a good big rain cloud and I was hoping it pushed eastward to rain on that area!

    First trip to Kansas

Look in the Colorado regional forum and Blue bijou is posting drought index updates. It'll give you a good idea of what part of the state to start looking in.

    Offseason access to WIHA?

Thanks DZ! The highlighted portions answered my questions for SO Dak! Now i understand how the trainers can go to So Dak in late summer. I was just wondering if KS had a similar program/arrangement. I wouldn't be shooting the birds (or capturing for that matter), just letting the dog get...

    Offseason access to WIHA?

Very true. Wouldn't want my dog catching any birds...especially the chicks. Was just curious in case I go on a road trip and was in the vacinity of a public hunting area.

    Offseason access to WIHA?

Thanks PD, I was mainly looking to get the dog on a few more wild birds before the season in the hopes she learns a little more. That was my main objective.
