    What an Opener!

My father and I spent a couple days last year in north east and north central IA last year on public land, we saw some birds, shot some birds, but the one take away from the trip was the public land that was availible to us was great land-perfect habitat, problem was no birds. Not to harp on...

    Public hunting. PLEASE HELP

To the best of my knowledge the great state of Iowa does not stock birds-I had a nice conversation about it with our local DNR guy last year and it basically came down to money. I know its the other side of the state for you but I had some decent luck last year up in Palo Alton, Clay, and Emmet...

Just doin' my part to support the DNR

I have a hard time justifying the $34 in state license fee I pay. I've been up in that area in the past and I'm surprised you saw what you did-public or private land up that way is tough right now.

    Reports

Was up around Lake Part this morning, lots of public land, and lots of people. Did see seven birds, five roosters and two ladies, none of them sat very hard, image with all the pressure what's up there, is pretty gun shy already. It was nice to see some birds, could do without the four hour...

    Retrieving downed birds

Got down to my skivies earlier this year to get one out of a pond. Was in SD, dog wanted no part of getting in the water, dad gave me one of those, well you shot it you need to get it looks. Bad idea, got a cold, hunters passing by got a chuckle.

    How low can we go?

Finally got on them dirty birds yesterday and today on some public land north of town but it was a really tough go. Saw a lot of signs of heavy roosts so Iâ??m sure to head back up that way next weekend. Let Jr. take out my .22 and he got to pop some rabbits, he was pretty excited for his...

Hate for this to be my first post but..

Public land was good in comparision to what I've hunted around here lately. The state production land wasn't bad, most had a pond or lake, lots of heavy cover, and some had crops/food plots. I prefered the walk in areas-I believe the walk in areas are land leased by the state while the state...

Hate for this to be my first post but..

I requested the atlas from SD's DNR website-here's the link: http://www.sdgfp.info/Wildlife/Requests.htm Get the pheasant information packet-has all the info you'll need- public hunting atlas, road survey, pheasant per square mile/per hunter, really good stuff. Out of state license will set...

    Watertown, SD

Just came back from Watertown as well with my pops-hunted public land, saw birds, shot birds, would have had more if my damn pup was handled better by me. Had really good luck NW of town on said public land, kicked up a lot of ladies while the ruddies were running. Bumped into a guy who was...

Hate for this to be my first post but..

My uncle has a farm close o Lenox, used to hunt there every year since I was 12. Three years ago we went the whole season and saw only one bird. 2200 acres, really good cover, waterways, IMO its not a matter of CRP, its a matter of birds just not being there anymore. Really sad. My dad and...
