Another Great Day Afield In CO

Good work!. I've been getting out too. It's been the usual of long range flushed birds and seeing a ton on private land while driving. I blew it and missed one the other day. My dog has yet to get her first wild bird, but it's great to see these numbers in CO.

    Hunting partner

2.5 hours? You've found the honey hole. It takes me 5+ to get to my Kansas spots. Good on you...

    Hays

I was just wondering if there was a tactical reason to prefer hunting without dogs in late season. No flaming on my end, I love talking hunting tactics for just about any species:).

    Got out today

You're right, an attitude check was in order. I was feeling sorry for myself after a tough beginning of the season. After this crazy schedule of a week coming up (work, overtime, and holiday commitments), I'll be itching to walk the fields again. Usually right around the time I get...

    Why is that?

    Got out today

Sounds good. I was just cranky while making the trek back home on 76 last night. I have a GSP, it's just her first year. She spent the early fall being trained on pen birds. She's finding out the wild ones have a bad habit of running and acting all wild. I'm right up the highway from you...

    Hays

A group of 10 or so of us hunt near Hays every year right after opening weekend. Usually we do pretty well and see a ton of birds. This year we had issues with the roads and were limited in what walk-in we could hunt. Between 9 guns, we only came home with 14 birds after 4 days of hunting...

    Losing Birds???

Ahhhh, I hope you're kidding! I was out too and only saw birds on not-hunter-friendly land. It was cold, but still better than work. Good job, glad to hear somebody had a good bird day:10sign:.

Banner lakes, I'm sorry, I should have clarified. It would be perfect if it had birds, it's nice and close to denver...

    Got out today

Fleming, Paoli, Haxtun areas. I've never posted alot, but feel like I have to vent... Per usual, saw alot of birds, and even more sign. Saw all of the birds on private land, which was posted in a manner that made it very clear they did not want anybody asking. Almost hit a bunch with my...

    Gaining access and courtesy?

I just got up the nerve this year, and haven't struck out yet. I make sure they see my dog though, helps with credibility. I struggle with knowing who owns what land, it gets confusing. I went out today, saw about 20 fly from railroad tracks into a private field. Walked up to the sign, said...

    So who got out today?

You're a very fortunate man:D. It took me until this year to get comfortable with knocking on landowners doors. Suprisingly most say yes when they see it's just me, one friend, and my dog.

    Losing Birds???

Looking at the forecast I was wondering the same thing actually. I'm headed out tomorrow (Weds) morning. Long drive from denver:rolleyes:.

    Eliminating Walk In Access Stamp

The article is very vague, I'm not sure how to interpret it. From reading I'm assuming "no more walk in fees"=no money for farmers therefore no more walk-in land program. So are we reduced to the earlier days of chasing ringnecks in SWA's? I remember those days (wasn't that long ago) and the...

    New here

I scooted up that way last week for a couple of hours. First thing I saw was a sign saying "Pheasant population low" and DOW requesting a phone call if you do happen to harvest a pheasant. It does look good, corn, sunflower seeds, tons of cover etc...but there aren't any birds there. Hunters...
