I go with 26" o/u, feel like I can shoulder it and point faster. A couple of years ago, I was researching the same question and found that their is ballistacally no advantage of one over the other. The artical actually stated that 27" was the best, but are not massively produced in the US...

I would definitely listen to what the locals are saying. They should be able to point you in the right direction. The problem with walk-in is that you just cannot be certain if someone has already hunted it, so go with private if you can. GL ________ Enzo (car)

Shot gun shells might be good too :) Game Shears and plastic gloves are good to have for cleaning birds along with zip locks and a cooler. I also use some sort of shooting/ sunglasses. ________ SI6 engine

I think you have the right idea for where you are going to start... areas 2,3,8, and 9 all have a lot of walk-in-hunting and are prime for pheasants. We've been seeing some good quail east and south of there too. GL...
