Congrats, nice job finding the birds, hard work pays off. My dad and I saw a bunch of hens this year, significantly more than in the past 3 or 4. Iowa sure looks to be on the rebound. A nice winter will help. But this is the first year in a while that I am optimistic about seeing more birds...
Just got back from NW Iowa, we weren't blown away by the amount of birds, but everywhere we went we at least saw a couple, except for the best looking place! Dogs worked great and we got a few but you are dead on, habitat is key.
Twice all year for the most part, we have a decent amount of places to hunt, plus some ground opens up later as the corn gets picked. Also some public ground opens up later in the year. So our pheasant season has seasons to us.
We never hit the same spot more than twice. I wish I had the problem of hunting more than two days a week. I may take a day off from work during the season, but can't take more.
