Looking for a new 20 or 16 gauge side by side shotgun...your opinions are welcomed!

Get a 16 gauge. All the cool kids are shooting them now.

Anyone going out for the opener?

I've actually heard the Kesterson/San Luis Monday pheasant hunts in the duck blind areas are quite good. You should check those out next season.

Anyone going out for the opener?

When I checked in for Pheasant Monday at Sac NWR and asked how they did over opening weekend, the staff said it was the first wild pheasant opener they could ever remember where 0 pheasants were bagged.

Anyone going out for the opener?

Yep....Limits at Yolo on opener. Lots of wild pheasants but looks like fewer than the record-setting year last season. Word is out, however,.... tons and tons of pheasant hunters showing up, which goes to show that wild pheasants are still a draw where they exist in decent numbers. Headed over...

    SxS Barrel Length

Where you can get it, my favorite length is 29 inches. Have that on a .410 sxs, which helps give a little more heft to such as light gun, but also on my 16 gauge sxs wild pheasant gun, which helps with smooth swings at distance on prairie birds.

Yolo Bypass WA Sets New Record for Wild Pheasant Harvest

Wow! 687 wild roosters taken during the 20024-25 hunting season. https://wildlife.ca.gov/Science-Institute/News/yolo-bypass-wildlife-area-sees-record-wild-pheasant-harvest-at-687-roosters

    16 gauge

I would take a look at Upland Gun Company -- https://uplandguncompany.com/ -- and also Fausti -- https://www.faustiusa.com/ -- mentioned above. Both o/u and sxs 16s available from those two makers.

Looking for a new 20 or 16 gauge side by side shotgun...your opinions are welcomed!

I would choose the BR 552 in 16 gauge -- and then you will have something pretty special on your hands. I own both B. Rizzini and Fausti guns, both are very well-made but the B. Rizzini has just a bit more original flair to it, less of a machine-made feel. At those price points you should also...

Best way to break in new gun

I've had a gunsmith file down the action slightly on a new Beretta to loosen it up. Says the Italians like their new guns super stiff. Just sort of a cultural preference.

Sorry to hear that Newman. I have not gotten out yet but was expecting or at least hoping for a better report.

    California's No. 1 Wild Pheasant Refuge/Wildlife Area

Winner, winner, pheasant dinner. It is indeed the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area -- far and away the No. 1 wild pheasant producer in the state. https://nrm.dfg.ca.gov/FileHandler.ashx?DocumentID=105633&inline Grizzly Island's harvest may be somewhat skewed. Though it has a population of wild...

And the Winner Is ... By a Huge Landslie ...Yolo

https://nrm.dfg.ca.gov/FileHandler.ashx?DocumentID=105633&inline Wow ... Still pretty paltry in the grand scheme of things, but by far outclasses every other Sac/San Joaquin public hunting area.
