    Whelping dog's eating habits

    Joel, I have bred my golden twice (2 years ago and 3 weeks ago) and in both instances she backed off of food at 2- 3 weeks in. I keep a log during the pregnancy and she dropped 1/3 to as much as 1/2 of her normal/working food intake each day. I only had one day where she did not eat at all...

    How do you get your dogs in shape?

    I did a lot with a bike this year and I agree. However, if you do not have a dog that heals well at a walk or run then don't do it. You could easily wreck. For me, I was able to put a lot of conditioning on my retriever and she ran strong upland hunting.

    Dew Claws.........Interesting

    I have kept the dew claws on my retriever and never had an issue waterfowl or upland hunting. They do serve a purpose and I think can help in very heavy water debris, ice or thick upland cover. With that said, I think a much bigger problem is most gun dog owners do not trim their dogs nails...
