Everything is unfair for non residents. Get used to it. I think it's one benefit that states can offer to their residents. Drawings, license fees, guide requirements. I can't think of 1 advantage to being a non resident in any state.
Why do people brag about spanking people with a pump? When I shoot in my leagues, the pump guys have a huge disadvantage and they ultimately buy an auto or o/u. I would think it would be the same way in the field.
I shot a pump for about 10 years exclusively. Then it broke and I had to upgrade...
I was thinking the same thing. People tend to spend money on things they are passionate about. If you hunt and use your gear a lot, I don't see an issue with having nice things. Gear does not make you a better hunter but you'll probably be more comfortable doing it.
It would be a good combo. Pointers covering the open area and the labs crashing the thick stuff. Do your labs get beat up from the thick stuff? My GSPs look like coons after a couple days of pushing them in cover. All their hair is gone around their eyes and their nose gets beat up. Does the...
I didn't mean to direct it to a breed discussion. I've duck hunted a lot with labs and they're obviously a great dog. I was tired of reading negative/ non res should stay at home comments and responded to this thread. It wasn't even the worst one. I knew you weren't training in your prime...
I see the benefits of late season lab work. I come up during the first 2 weeks before quail season starts in Texas. I would guess your labs were dying last year in 70-80 degree weather while my dogs were pointing birds on the edges.
I don't use a gps collar. You can range your dogs out or bring them close. You as a lab owner should know that you can teach control over your dog. No one ranges there pointers way out for pheasant hunting.
My comment about switching to GSPs is because you made a comment about only finding 3...
Sounds like you need to switch to GSP's.
Chris,
I say you take him up on this but only allow him to hunt 1 acre. He doesn't realize you're paying for the land not the birds.
It's all about expectations. Hunt close to home on public land, you might be happy shooting one bird all weekend. South Dakota has positioned themselves as the top pheasant hunting destination and with that comes higher expectations. A guy might drive 10-15 hours bringing a large group. If they...
Well, I guess it comes down to wood or synthetic. I really like the rubber cheek insert on the synthetic stocks. I think it really helps with felt recoil. For me my Benelli sbe 2 kicks less than my A400 wood stock and Benelli Legacy. I think it's because of the cheek piece.
I just upgraded to the Garmin Sport Pro. I had the Tritronics Sport Basic before. I upgraded because of the added light mode and bark limiter. I've had it 2 months and it is a big upgrade from what I had. It has the tone and vibrate modes like the 550. My dogs react to the tone and I rarely have...
I wet the bottom half of my dog down before I start hunting in warm weather. This helps extend her hunting time.
A lot of people don't do this because of the threat of trapping heat in but if there's airflow I think it helps cool them down. Putting a dog in a box or kennel when wet is when you...
Now I know where all the doves went. I hope you like dove meat or have a party.
One year I shot so many doves I was eating it at every meal. I don't recommend pan fried dove and eggs. They don't go together.
