    Enough grain storage

seeing a lot of corn being cut for silage. wonder if that is due to the low prices and large harvest predictions.

    Public land hunting from motorhome?

A few years ago I was driving down a dirt road and coming towards me are three huge combines. So I back my pick into an old field approach and actually lean the tailgate on the barb wire. The combines went as far as the could to the opposite edge. They tilted their heads, and the heads actually...

    Choke Tube Advice

No performance improvement with extended chokes. great if you are going from skeet to trap or sporting clays. my hunting guns have stock chokes and they are rarely changed.

Beretta a400 xplor or Benelli ultralight

I really love my AL390's. I have two of them. One camo synthetic (for waterfowl) and one wood stock for field use. I really love how it shoulders and the light recoil. Not the lightest shotgun, but a great design, and very reliable.

    What chokes and shot size?

I shoot Light Modified in the bottom barrel and Improve Modified in the top barrel (in that order). Usually stick with 3" #4 steel for all pheasant season. Have some #5 lead I use occasionally.

Must Stop Places in Pheasant Country

My friends say the Steeple Bar in Oriental is really something to see. An old church converted to a bar. I am looking forward to checking it out. Anyone been there? Another great place for pizza is Ward's Store in Bryant SD.

Must Stop Places in Pheasant Country

Just got back from spending the weekend in eastern SD. Stopped at one of my favorite places in pheasant country, Kones Korner in Castlewood, SD. Pulled up to the pump and stepped out of my truck only to be reminded that they still come out and pump the gas for you. They have been doing it since...

    Planning for 2015

Might be easier on humans to hunt when it is 75 degress and sunny, but its not easier on dogs. I'll take cold and snow over heat and sun any day if my dogs are happy. As far as birds being tougher and bunched up later, I find that better than having standing crops which spread the birds out and...

    Planning for 2015

Hunter - you gotta love SD in the fall. "its like a box of chocolates...". I hunted opener last fall and had to quit after a couple hours because it was too hot for the dogs. Two weeks later, my son and I quit because of the windy sleet. Opener 2013 was cold windy with light snow. I have been...

Best strategy to hunt with 4 guys

Four guys and two dogs is pretty much our usual group. My advice...get in the sloughs. Tall, thick cattails adjacet to roads and cut crops. Go deep, get your feet wet.

How's the shotgun practice going this summer?

I haven't been counting but I have approx. 1200 shots of trap and sporting clays. Scores are creeping up consistantly but will never be competetive. Have been using my new browning citori lightning exclusively to get used to it. Tried a few shots with my sons franchi auto and couldnt hit many...
