    My Pheasant Hunting Farewell

I wish you well. Getting old is not for the faint of heart. I dread the day I can't be in the field. I hope you find joy in other places!

    Shooting style

I didn't read all the posts but anyone good with a shotgun is shooting sight picture. If you have time to mount the gun and look down the rib over the bead and make sure you are mounted correctly, then great, but most of the time it's instinctive mount and shoot.

Start of Minnesota 2025-2026 season countdown

My family is dogless this year after an abrupt unexpected loss of our beloved pooch in December. We are waiting for the leaves to fall off the tress so we can do some grouse hunting and hope to see where the bird falls instead of using the dog's nose. I miss pheasant hunting greatly. We have...

I'm really surprised that you have had good success with Cabela's products. I have had the Black credit card for probably 30 years so I always used points for hunting gear. Knee Surgery Question

A number of years ago I dislocated my kneecap and tore my ACL while doing a "hockey stop" when downhill skiing. After going through the medical care for that I thought I'd be in a brace forever. For about 6 months that was true, but after that I was fine. My only advice is work hard and...

    Weimaraner Pups

We had a Weim before our pointing lab. Got it from Southwest Prairie Kennels in western MN. He was a great dog! I'm not sure if they are still in business.

Cooking Own Meals at the Motel

I started a business right before we had kids. We had some lean years before the business really got going. Cooking in a hotel room was something we did quite a bit, especially for ski trips where we didn't necessarily want to go outside to grill after a day in the cold. We even packed all of...

    New from MN

Good luck with the new puppy! Once you have a pointer you will never go back in my experience. I'm a new guy to this site from MN as well. We lost our family/hunting dog in December. My wife is still mourning his loss and "is not ready" for another dog yet. It looks like I won't be doing...
