Maybe I'm naive, but what are these traps doing out there? Are they to catch coyotes? They certainly aren't going to catch any beavers out on the prairie. And if they are for coyotes, aren't there any regulations regarding where you trap and where you can hunt birds in order to keep the two out...

I second what Quail Hound said - quail, if they are wild and in good numbers. Mind you, wild bobwhites fly like they're shot out of a cannon. They make pheasants seem easy. But it is hard to beat the beauty (and size) of a rooster ringneck.
