ISO Dickinson ND cabin/hunting friendly house

As the title suggests, looking for somewhere for me and three buddies, and 6 dogs to stay in the 2021-2022 season. Will not need guides or permission for property to hunt on, just the lodging. Dog friendly inside preferred, exterior kennels capable of holding 6 large breed hunting dogs required...

    Veterans Day Hunting

I went out for the veterans release with my pops, put up five, bagged out with two each. Mandy put up another one on the walk out, so there were plenty out there for sure. Went back out with two buddies on Sunday, and they both got two each. Thinking about heading out this weekend to give it...

    Best $1500 O/U Field Gun...

Don't rule out Cynergys in this price point too. Shop around, and you can find a good deal. If you are looking for a no frills, get-the-job-done gun, and don't care about manufacturer, look at the Stevens 555.

    Vests......

I am currently using the Cabela's strap vest. I'm 6'7" 220, and can say it fits me very well. I will say the back padding takes some getting used to, but after a couple trips out, you can tell it's helping your back. The best is very adaptable, as all of the straps adjust to what clothing you...

What's new with Ohio's bird hunters?

I too, will be going to the UP of Michigan for a grouse/woodcock/duck hunt, scheduled for October 17-21st. It certainly doesn't help the state of affairs when this year the DNR again lowers the total number of pheasants they are releasing statewide. I wish they would require a stamp or extra...

    UP grouse/woodcock hunt

Already on that as well! I posted here too, as there areany people who hunt every game bird Michigan -and several other states- have to offer. I'm one who tries to absorb information from as many sources as possible. Thanks for the suggestion though! Very much appreciated.

    UP grouse/woodcock hunt

Gents, Much like the post previous to this, I am scheduled for my first experience with grouse as well. Our trip will run from October 17-October 21 on a GEMS site in Luce County. We will probably hit other areas near there, bit that will be our focus point. As stated in the previous post, I...

    prairie storm

Praire storm is made for wild birds. I'm from Ohio, so I know what you're facing as far as put and take birds. I use federal wingshok 1 1/8 oz 6s, and after the release dates Remington heavy game loads 1 1/4oz 6s. Both of these rounds open up fast, and don't destroy the meat if you let the birds...

    Favorite shotgun?

Last year my Stevens 555 was my "go to" as I love how light weight the gun is. I will be purchasing one in 20 or 28 gauge for my upcoming UP Michigan grouse hunt this year.

Is anyone getting late season hunting in?

Made it out with Mandy again this past Monday. Tried out chukars for the first time, and you would swear she had hunted them her whole life- after I helped her dial in on the first one that is. My shooting was the best its been all year: shot 8 shells, 8 birds went in the bag.

    12 versus 20

I have hunted with both 12 and 20, and with the same gun in both gauges. I noticed very little differences inside 30 yards. However, when I got beyond that, my "dead on impact" percentage went way down. I consider myself a fairly decent wingshooter, but noticed that my percentage of kills in...

Is anyone getting late season hunting in?

Any day out in the field is a good day as long as the dogs are having fun. Be sure to let us know how it goes!

Is anyone getting late season hunting in?

Made it out this past Saturday, picked up 7 out of 8 birds with my new Stevens 555. Gun shot smooth, Mandy worked her butt off and found two birds I dang near walked over, and had a lot of fun. Video link will be coming soon, but here is a little photo for now.

    non-toxic beginner

Sorry, not trying to hijack the thread here, but in terms of pellet count, how does 1oz of steel compare to 1oz of lead? "Standard rule" is that lead is two sizes smaller than steel I.e. #4 steel = #6 lead and #3 steel = #5 lead, but what about in pellet count? Does an ounce of steel equate to...
