Dog struggling but good start otherwise

Just an update. Thanks all for the great advice. I worked her out of being gun shy using Greg's advice. Great forum. Can't thank you enough. Now looking for some birds to do some further training. Any ideas on some inexpensive birds (pigeon, quail or otherwise) in the Springs area?

Dog struggling but good start otherwise

Found some pigeons on craigslist. Any special type that I should look for? I am sure the kids would enjoy taking care of them but hard sell to tie a string and cardboard and letting the dog chaise them down. Oh well, I'll just have to put it out there before I bring them home. I think she...

Dog struggling but good start otherwise

Thanks for the tips. I hope I can work her out of it. The second trip out we got into a field with a ton and I mean a ton of birds. Also a ton of sand burrs and goat heads. I ended up having to help her out of the corner. She was miserable and I was shooting like crazy. I am not sure if...

    Never mind found training forum

Thanks for the tips and the lead on Roebuck's book. I'll check it out. I think I'll do some reading and start the training after the holiday's. Andy

    Never mind found training forum

Again thanks for in the info. I didn't make a post, just searched the training forum. Wow. More info in there than I can digest in one sitting. I think I have the way ahead figured out now, just have to get started.

    Never mind found training forum

Thanks for the input. Looks like a bit of a long road ahead but I am willing. I have been looking into some local dog clubs but think I will have to tackle most of this on my own. She is just not ready for the guns yet. We have been working every day on the retrieving and she is ready to go...

Dog struggling but good start otherwise

I have been into birds everyday but my rescued lab has become gun shy. She started off strong but by the third trip just wanted to stay in the truck. Finally figured out what was going on during the third trip out. She is done for the season. Hopefully I can work her out of this this...

    Never mind found training forum

Sorry for the long post but I'd like some help from the experts. Grew up raising english setters hunting ruffed grouse in VA/WVA. Fast fwd 20 years and I was itching for another dog last winter. Three young ladies in the house insisted on adopting a yellow lab. Looked long a hard and found...

    Mid week break

Kitchen pass has been revoked for a while. Three trips in a week burned it up fast (and my money for diesel) She has been more than generous with spring turkey, fishing, elk, antelope and pheasant. I can't complain. I'll be back out in a few weeks. I drive a blue F-250 crew cab. Andy

    Mid week break

I did the same. New here and new to pheasant hunting. I did bunch of grouse hunting back east when I was growing up. Hunted south of Yuma Monday and Wednesday and managed a limit both days. Monday was cold cold cold.
