Spent the last day in Lyman Co. Six hunters done by noon. 5 Pudelpointers, sometimes 3 honoring 1. Private of course, but tons of birds, great day weatherwise and what a way to end it.

One, somewhere between Epiphany and Fedora a couple weeks ago.

The porcupine incident was terrible. How many men does it take to get about 80 quills out of a dog? Four---two literally lying on the pouch and two pulling quills. Got it done and Poco is doing fine. Have not dealt with the deer collision yet.

The farther west you go, the more there is ought do to poor crop. I cannot believe they are picking some of the fields from 281 west but I suppose it would cause problems next spring.

The warm weather has left!

Pretty much the same scenario on 9 day hunt, all north central and northwest SD. Avg. just over 2birds per day with a few grouse and Huns thrown in. Saw more birds than expected, but less than last year for sure. Short cover, windy dry conditions made for wild birds and tough pointing dog...

Saw about 30 birds had lots of good dog work even tho the older birds were very skitish. Two of us got 3 birds. I also was up all nite with bad leg cramps from walking the wet ground. Head cold too from being wet. Trying to recover for evening hunt.
