    Thought I introduce my self

All of the put and take up by me gets hammered pretty hard, it seems that everyone knows when the dnr truck plants birds and they hit it within 2 days. On opening weekend there are so many people out where the dnr plants birds that it is extremely unsafe! I prefer the woods, as I'm a little...

How to decide on a breed

JohnnyB you are right started dogs may be a bit pricey up front, but from my standpoint you will come out ahead. If you factor in the price of the puppy and all the vet care, shots, and training you put into a puppy by the time it's 2 years old you will have way more into a young dog than you...

Your right I don't live to far from you, I live in Rock Falls, just south of town. Glad to hear you found a pup you are happy with. Have you ever hunted out towards Rock Falls, or the muddy creek bottom? If so we've probably corssed paths without even knowing it. sending you a pm as well.

How to decide on a breed

Very sorry for your loss, she look like she wa a great dog. There are a lot of great started dogs out there to choose from. You should have no problem finding a started pointer, if thats your preference, for barely more than you can buy puppies for. The biggest advantage I find with buying...

    Benefits of a second dog

The more dogs the better! Your timing couldn't be better with haveing a dog at 5 you are bringing a pup in at a great time, so when your older dog is slowing down you have a young dog all ready to take over the majority of the hunting duties and offer some relief for the older dog. It is an...

    Thought I introduce my self

Welcome to the site! nice to see more WI people on here. never been hunting down by Milwukee but it sounds like you did alright. Up by me you'd have to hunt put and take to have a chance at 10 pheasants in a year. Welcome and if you ever find yourself wanting to hunt some grouse let me know.

I'm a little late to the conversation but welcome, it's nice to see another person from the Eau Claire area on here. I know that if ou go to the nebraska website they should be able to send you maps of the sandhills area, they were handing out hunting atlas's at pheasant fest this year...

    Field trial help

I say go for it. I did my first field trial last year and had a blast! I participated in a cover dog field trial and found most everyone to be very helpful and nonjudgemental. It's all about fun and enjoying your dog. :)

I have a friend that I work with that hunts St. Croix county, he has always told me that it gets pretty hard.

    Grouse anyone?

I am still hunting this year, due to the lack of snow, and enjoying the emptiness of the woods. I went up to Iron River for three days and had some really good hunting and didn't see a soul. Closer to home in the county forests has been just as good, birds are a little spooky but it's nice just...

    Western WI Pheasants

There are a lot of grounds around the menomonie area. The put and take you are referring to, is the Dunnville bottoms area, south of Menomonie. Most of the areas east of town are more of a wild bird population. There are a lot of places to walk and not move anything but then there are a few...

    december hunt

I am wondering about the hunting oppertunities in nebraska in december and january? I figured if South Dakota and Kansas are great bird destinations why not Nebraska? I'm kind of thinking it might be a sleeper state? So what can a person expect, on a general basis when coming to hunt...
