    mo survey

From the opening weekend, I experienced that pheasants were stable from thr 2014 season. Quail seemed a bit down. 4 coveys on opening day last year and only 2 in the first 2 days of the opener. I was surprised in the uplift of the forecast in NW Missouri with all the rain we received this spring.

    C'mon -- let's hear some reports

I think I'm up to 5 roosters and will have to count the quail in the freezer. I don't know about you guys but I have been getting into some of the biggest coveys I have ever seen in my lifetime. My dad says it's nowhere close to the hay days of the 60's and 70's but has been a lot of fun this...

    C'mon -- let's hear some reports

Good Sunday Went out late Sunday morning not expecting much. Surprisingly, got into two coveys, one was over thirty birds. Then had two roosters hold tight, flush and meet their maker. I was quite pleased for it being so late in the season and only hunting for a few hours!

    Covey Headquarter

Warning! This post is based upon a frustrating day at work with a landowner. Just my thoughts and this post is My opinion of the fad of our society's view on conservation. Anyone look at the winter edition of MDC's Covey Headquarter's? In the last year they just started an interesting study...

Attack plan for johnson grass ?

The dreaded Johnson Grass! Mow before it flowers and chemical control. Plateau and Outrider is very expensive and who has the time to paint each plant with Glyphosate? If it hasn't taken over the whole area, I would mow the JG and do what I can with Glyphosate. It's too bad that some seed...

    Question about BILBY

Bilby is tough to hunt even without the corn still in. You know the birds are there if you have hunted with snow on the ground from all the tracks. I went to school up at NWMSU and spent a lot of time chasing them with occasional success. After the season I would walk along the dirt service...

    Question about BILBY

I wouldn't worry too much about the deer hunters. I think this is one of the safest areas to hunt during deer season due to the limited amount of timber and the regulations. Most guys I know that hunt deer there are bow hunters. I wish they would get the corn out!!!

    Weekend plans?

Going to NW Missouri to see if the colder temps and precip will yield some points and perhaps some birds on the ground.
