Numbers not near what we expected

Actually I did call Spoke to the area biologist for that area. He told me bird numbers were decent everywhere. He said if I wanted quail to concentrate south of the Arkansas River and SE of Great Bend. He said west of Great Bend the pheasant numbers were quite good. I did some home work in...

Numbers not near what we expected

Yep I agree Two of the WIHA's we hunted had been removed. Both of those held birds two years ago. Also, one area we hunted with great CRP etc. was covered in tire tracks through it in various places. Looks almost like someone tried to drive the pheasants out of the thick stuff by driving...

Numbers not near what we expected

Quick report from a Virginian who drove 1,500 miles (one-way) to experience some pheasant and quail hunting. First caveat, is I love Kansas. Have bird hunted there before (two years ago) and had a great time and got into plenty of pheasants. Have also hunted turkey's there on three other...

    Hugoton/Liberal trip report

You guys are tough from Texas I can't imagine hunting in that wind with that wind chill. Did you also get into some quail, or are we talking just roosters? PS. For one person, a lab is hard to beat. They can dig them out of that nasty stuff I'm sure.

    Dig out required?

Supposed to be headed that way on the 2nd. How much snow did you folks get from this most recent storm? Trying to figure out whether dog boots are required for ice as well. I'd be staying just a bit north of Great Bend. thanks guys (and galls) PS. Merry Christmas.

    quail versus turkey

Interesting discussion A couple of years ago I hunted turkey's outside of Pretty Prairie, Kansas. We were talking to an old old (did I say old) retired dentist. He was remarking that 50 years earlier you could have counted on one hand the number of large tree's in the area and there were zero...

    A Memorable Day

How many is a ton, a bunch, or a gob?

Truck Load Virginia term. Either applies to manure or literally a truck load of harvested (or live) deer. In my particular County (Loudoun) there is no public land. Accordingly the deer grow big and they grow numerous. The few privileged folks (not me or my friends) who have connections...

    pheasants at Cheynne Bottoms?

Called today Didn't specifically ask about ice. They did tell me they only got about 4-5 inches of snow out of this latest storm. Called for cold temps but it's that time.

    pheasants at Cheynne Bottoms?

Got the info form CB today Nice folks. I called and they sent me an entire packet of info. BTW, they said there were currently 250,000 Geese at CB as well as 45,000 ducks. My goodness that's a pile of birds.

    pheasants at Cheynne Bottoms?

Thanks for the responses Didn't realize they had an office there to call. I'll see if I can locate the number. I'm hearing all those areas around CB have decent Quail Populations. Be nice to have a second option if the duck hunting is over with fairly quickly.

    pheasants at Cheynne Bottoms?

Looking into a late season waterfowl hunt with my two goldens and good hunting buddy at Cheyenne Bottoms. In addition to hunting ducks, wondering if there might be pheasants around. Know we will have to use non-toxic shoot, but we will be using that for ducks anyway. Also just because I like...
