Advice for a hunt this weekend.

Well, we had an interesting hunt. Spent most of the morning driving around and eliminating WIHA that had marginal cover at best. After lunch did quite a bit better. Pointed close 25 hens, but not a single rooster in range. Did have a few flush wild, but no shots fired. Actually saw most of the...

Advice for a hunt this weekend.

Thanks for the responses. We might have to check out some of the Walk In in Jewell County. I'll try to let you guys know what we find.

Advice for a hunt this weekend.

Hey guys. As I said earlier, I don't post often, but enjoy reading all of your stories and reports. I need some advice for this coming weekend. My dad is thinking about coming down from Nebraska Thursday evening and we are wanting to head west for some hunting Friday. I haven't spent much time...

    Good Hunt Friday Morning

Hey guys. I don't post much, but wanted share one of the better hunts I've had locally this year. The dog and I had 3 roosters by 10:00 and worked hard to get our limit, but the birds just wouldn't cooperate. Moved a couple of nice covies of quail as well, but being a transplanted Nebraska boy...

    Milford Lake Area

All of my kansas hunting has been west of Milford Lake this year. Quail numbers are average, but there are some nice covies if you can find them. Roosters are few and far between, but I have seen an encouraging number of hens in several spots that I've hunted. The trick with the Milford area is...

    Opening day!

We had a slow day. Killed one pheasant and one quail. Could have shot better and had a couple more. Had quite a few birds flush wild and still a lot of crops in, so hopefully quite a few birds made it through the opening barrage.

    Opening day pressure Wakefield area

This will be my second year hunting the Kansas opener. Last year, I had no idea where to go. This year, I've got several places scouted near the corners of Geary/Dickinson/Clay counties. I also have few places in mind North of Wakefield that are non-toxic shot only areas. What kind of hunter...

    Why do they do it?

KB makes a great point. Those who don't do the leg work as you do, Point, will have marginal success at best. No amount of internet scouting can replace time in the field. I view most reports simply as tools and additional information to add to what I've already found in my scouting efforts...

    Clay County WIHA

Is there another area within an hour/hour and half of J.C. that would be better that I should focus on?

What's your favorite cover, weather, time of day etc?

    Amen to that!

    Clay County WIHA

How are the WIHAs in north west and west central Clay County? I'm looking at some areas within an hour's drive of Junction City to make a day trip to and there seems to be a lot of access in that area. What other areas should I be considering? I'd really like to keep the driving distance in that...

What's your favorite cover, weather, time of day etc?

The thing that makes this conversation interesting to me are the exceptions. I agree with what KB has said in general regarding fronts and rain, but I've experienced exceptions on a couple of occasions. One day in particular was a rainy, sleety mess. We hunted heavy cover for several hours with...
