    South Dakota Field Crops Report

    We farm and guide just south of Aberdeen SD and many have not even started beans yet. Moisture tested some of our early corn today at 33%. So it will be a long time before the crops get in. Lots of birds in the area with lots of places to hide.

    Just finished wheat harvest up about 15 miles south of Aberdeen and the bird numbers look great! Saw some almost fully colored to some that were maybe a week old. Anywhere from 6-15 in a group. This fall is going to be another great year of pheasant hunting in our part of the state forsure...

    How well did the birds hold up this winter

    We farm just south of Aberdeen, South Dakota. We have had a fair amount of snow but I don't think it hunt the pheasant population much. We just got 10inches last thursday but looks like the majority of that will be gone by tomorrow. I'm sure we lost a few birds but still see plenty around.

    Smoked Pheasant

    It is electric and i smoke them with the skin off. Just clean them normally and then during the winter i take some out of the freezer and smoke them.

    Smoked Pheasant

    I smoke pheasants on a dakota grill. It does a great job and because of its design it doesnt dry out much and has a probe that automatically shuts off when the meat is done.
