    Any new reports??

I have hunted the NE corner of CO since 1995 and in the last 10 years the bird numbers have dropped significantly. I go out once every couple years to check in with little success. This year, there are new fields and I have shot a couple of roosters on my last 2 outings. I hope this is a sign of...

    Golden Pups in Colorado?

Hi all, my hunting buddy Doc just passed in his sleep last Saturday. I adopted him about 16 years ago and he turned into a very diverse hunter but more importantly a very well mannered family dog. My family and I want to get another golden with the red coat like Doc. I have located at least one...

    Grass AWN !

Hunting a golden for the last 15 years I too do this. They pick up every burr and grass seed in the field. Too often I have found seeds partially buried in his skin working their way in.

Walk in Access south of Stratton

Logical, in the 20 years I have been hunting NE CO I too have seen this, hunters trespassing, leave their trash behind incl carcasses, shooting clay pigeons and leaving the shells and of course the broken clays everywhere. What are they thinking??? I found a new WIA field one year and it was...

Walk in Access south of Stratton

Hey Eddie, this is normal, however, I have found walk in fields that weren't listed on the map too. The farmer puts up the signs after or doesn't tell the state. Of course the inverse happens too. The map shows a field which does not exist :)

    Hi from Evergreen CO

Hi Kismet, thanks for the sentiment. Belle was a sweetheart and I see a lot of her personality in Joy. Joy was 9 weeks old when she met Belle and they got to hunt and live together and a lot of Belle's desire and personality rubbed off on Joy.

    Unconventional bird dogs

LOL, me and my brother both looked at each other and smiled the first time we saw it, but when the dog started covering a lot of ground very quickly (they are fast) and flushing birds we shot em! The farmer uses the dog to help him move cattle too. Farmers; they make do with what they have don't...

    Hi from Evergreen CO

Thanks Upland I agree, we don't have the numbers of phez as many states around us, but we aren't afraid to drive long distances or hike miles looking for them!

    Unconventional bird dogs

It is fun watching unconventional hunting dogs figure out their role. Prey drive is in all of them, just a matter of tuning it in I think? I have successfully hunted phez behind an Australian cattle dog. The Kansas farmer who owned the land and dog liked to put it in the field with us when we...

Need Help finding a Golden Retriever!!!

Hey Eddie, ignore my question re the breeder in your other post. When I get another golden it will be from the Trieven kennel. They have a great rep and their dogs are beautiful and well built.

    Training my new pup.

That pic melts my heart. I have a 15 yo golden and never used an ecollar on him. At the time I couldn't afford one anyway. Compared to my labs he is a real softy though. I only ever had to think angry thoughts and he could read them, seriously, he was very attuned to my emotions. Your pup is...
