I understand the reasoning behind not shooting a covey with less than 8 birds. There's some science to back that up. So I'm curious to see some replies to a not-so-hypothetical situation: It has snowed 5-6" the last day, forecasted temps for the next two days are not to be above 40 with lows...

How do quail and snow mix? Noticed a couple pictures where there could be "considerable" snow in parts of your state. Just curious as to how well the little birds survive if it sticks around? Thanks.

Made my non-resident hunting license purchase on an inaugural trip to KS in January this year (2010). The license is still valid for this fall, correct? Is it still valid in January (2011) or would I need to purchase a new license come January? Thanks in advance.

Humbling indeed. I know I shot six times before I connected on my first. I didn't keep track after that but I'd say I shot two-three times for every bird after that. I hit a hot streak and got the last two with three shots. Just when I was getting in the rhythm, it was time to come home:(

We didn't get after the scalies this trip. Their still on the list. Next time.

Wellâ?¦we came, we saw some birds, the birds kicked our butts for the most part. My hunting partner and I spent Monday afternoon thru Sunday morning hunting around the State. We hunted different parts of the state every couple days, mostly to get a feel for what KS had to offer and see some...

Draw a line on a map roughly from the southeast corner of the state to the northwest corner. Stay south and west of that line and north and east of the Missouri River. Lots of pheasants in the southwest but very little in the way of waterfowl.

Yes, I was wondering about them. I'm assuming the population isn't very high? Would be pretty cool to add on of those to the list of gallinaceous birds I've taken. Might have to spend a day or two pursuing the little critters.

Thank you for the visual guide, M.R. Byrd. That looks similar to the type of cover in the western part of our state. We typically find sharptails in that stuff, though. Looks like the kind of country made for some long-legged pointing dogs. I'm "stuck" with my retrievers but we'll make a go...
