Does anyone know if SD or an Ag report puts anything out there about hail damage areas?

Went out to N. Yuma Cty WIAs yesterday, weather was great, hunting was not. Jumped 2 hens as soon as we got out of the truck, then didn't put up a bird after that. Saw about 15 birds driving around, all on or near farmsteads on private land but most of them roosters. Pretty disappointing...

Planning to go out Sunday, WIAs. I'll post a report on Monday, hoping there are still birds to be had out there.

I'm sure the farmers wanted to the corn cut before a blizzard hit. Turns those fields into mud and they'd have to wait for dry weather again.

I saw a decent amount of standing corn. in fact, we saw about 15 birds that I think got spooked up by a running deer fly straight across the road to standing corn. that sucked.

My policy is simple. If you beat me there, you get the spot. I'll check another spot if I see a group where I want to go. Now, if the piece is 1/2 mile by 1/2 mile, I might go in an opposite corner and try to give you space. Yesterday a group was walking private land right toward my truck...

I hit some WIA in Yuma/Logan Ctys yesterday morning before it got too hot. very encouraged by the bird numbers. We saw about 30 birds, I've never seen more than 3 in a day in any previous trip out there since 2012. They were flushing way too far out of range for the most part and I screwed up...

I'm taking my 11 year old son for his first hunt on Sunday to WIA areas in Yuma County. I just hope it is more fruitful than last few years. I'll post a bird report next week.

I don't know about "epic" but after the last three years, there is only one direction it can go.

I have a contact SW of Hays in the Ness City area who drives around frequently. He tells me pheasant numbers are poor and probably not worth my time driving from Colorado.

Pretty amazing how much less WIA lands there are now compared to the last two years. Sucks compared to how much Kansas has enrolled.

thanks guys, that's what I thought too but wanted to make sure. He will be under my direct supervision for a few years anyway.

Pretty simple question here, but don't seem to be finding a clear answer on the state's website. Is there a minimum age for non resident youth to pheasant hunt? My son is 10 and has hunter safety. Thinking about a trip to Kansas this fall, thanks.

Thanks for the info guys. I know finding anything west of Boulder is both difficult and painful. I'll give your suggestions a try and do some exploring. I might try to find a rancher who will let me out there. Not as easy out here as growing up in rural Wisc and shooting off the back porch...
