Flushing Pheasants

I took the dogs out to get a run in before the snow comes. I was hoping the incoming weather would bunch the birds up in the switchgrass and it seemed to work out.

The dogs had some more points with a few more hens flushing. It figures I didn't video on the lone rooster they found. Nittany did find a bird in the woods as he was running down the hill.

Blitz also had some more finds:

I think there were about 20 hens and 1 rooster in all.

Our new pup Champ will be arriving tomorrow! Keep an eye out for pictures:)

Thanks for the photos! I'll bet there won't be much sleep at your house. :)

Glad to hear that you are still seeing birds. We have made a few trips to the area that we think has wild birds, we've seen plenty of tracks. We are thinking about putting some trail cams there.

Do you think the birds you saw were wild or holdovers?

I can't say..I was on a work related trip and saw them while driving by..area looked nice but don't know to much about it to comment on if they were wild or not. If I were to guess I would say holdover birds!

If you put up trail camera's you have to share the pictures!

We were spared, New England got the brunt of the storm.

That's good.:)

Now I'm wishing I could say the same for us. Just this morning our forecast is (now) calling for a blizzard with up to 18 inches in some areas. I think this storm may be moving in your direction too.

Hope everything goes well out there. One of the first things I think about when I hear about these storms is how will it affect our birds!:(

If there is food and cover I think the birds will do well. Ice on the other hand is a different story, especially for smaller birds like quail.

I ran the dogs this morning to see if the birds were still around. I saw lots of tracks and one feather pile but no birds. They're around somewhere but we just didn't find them today. The dogs did have two unproductive points.

The picture above is of WILD PENNSYLVANIA RINGNECKS! It was taken with a trail cam inside one of the WPRA's, what a great site to see. I was wondering how the birds were doing with all this bad weather, I'll sleep a little easier tonight!

That's an awesome picture! :coolpics: It's neat knowing those guys were born in Pa..Doesn't look to be to much snow there, which is good.

Nice bunch of birds. Wild birds! Very very cool. I'm considering purchasing a nice trail cam to start capturing photos of wild birds around my county. We could start a trail cam tread for wild pheasants from around the nation--year round. First to capture a wild hen with her chicks wins a prize. lol?????

That sounds like a great idea! But we would have to handicap the boys from South Dakota and such! :D

Its been 70+ degrees almost every day this month here and our bloom was about 2 weeks early, I bet some birds are very close to being on nests around my part of the world.

There are still birds in the fields close to home but today a fox den with two pups was seen in the middle of the CREP fields. Hopefully the birds can find a way to keep surviving.
