Foreign objects in the Nose!

On December 14th we had a brief hunt in SD. That's the day my Golden started uncontrolled sneezing. The Vet said to watch her - see if this passes. About a week later she sneezed up a small weed object - about 3/4" long with tiny branches. The sneezing ended and all appeared to be well.

A day ago the sneezing started again, not continual but intermittent. I'm thinking it's some residual stuff she's trying to clear. This afternoon she had a real jag and out of the nose comes a straight shafted weed (cattail piece) 3" long and 1/4" wide! I'm assuming this has been in her nose since we last hunted the cattails, as it doesn't appear to be like anything in my back yard.

This is my sixth Golden - have never experienced a dog ingesting stuff through the nose and storing it for a protracted length of time. Any more sneezing and we're off to the Vet for a scope et al.

Wow that's insane, I've never heard of anything like that, and I've never had my dog ingest anything through the nose, but I have had scratches to the eye, that needed vet attention.

I had something very similar happen but over a shorter time frame of three days. Same thing with sneezing fits and that evening finally out came a piece of cattail about 2 inches. Wowzers. After that popped out the sneezing was over.

Learn what foxtail barley looks like, it’s a species that favors an acidic wetlands. In fall seeds get loose and dogs in wetlands can injest them into the nasal cavity. They continue to migrate, and can puncture sinus membranes, migrate to lungs and to the brain. The seed is spiky and hard for a dog to rid them . In ND This fall my dog sneezed all Sunday night, next day on the road to a vet clinic. They have a scope they insert into a sedated dog and somehow they pull them. Don’t wait!

Had a dog sneezing uncontrollably with a slight trickle of blood from one nostril. Called vet & went in immediately. Vet knocked dog out and cleaned his nasal passages & presented me with a plastic bag container almost 3" of fern stem, a little bit of fern leaf and 3 dead ants. Dog woke up all better.
