I am an old bird hunter from the Badger state.Believe it or not but I can still get around fairly good for my age.I lost my GSP Jack last november. He was going on 14 years old,but my wife let me get another GSP that I will be training this summer and hunting this fall.I hope things will work out for a few more years.

Welcome to the site. At 75 I assume I am the eldest on the UPH site. Care to share your ripe age?

Welcome Jackson! But since you had to put in your first post something about "getting around fairly good fro your age", us older guys on the site want to know how old you are. You can also enter your birthdate in your profile and that way we can all wish you "Happy Birthday" on your big day.

jonnyb at 75 is one of the oldest I believe. bobeyerite is older but not active on the site anymore. Myself, I'll turn 67 in a month.

Anyone else want to join in? We maybe should start a new thread for this rather than hijack Jackson's.

Dang, I look at that list and I'm starting to feel younger already. :)

Carptomi (Tom) calls my hunting partner and I "old guys." And his buddies, all in their 30's and 40', seem to know who he is referring to. We had a grand time and enjoyed hunting with the youngsters. The only problem we had: the "youngsters" couldn't get up in time for the 10AM start!

In spite of being in the hospital three times in the last 4 month's, I'm ready for another season and even thinking about a new shotgun.

Blessings of the season to all...

I am from howards grove wi and will be 74 on feb 1.my lab is a 9 year old started dog that my son got for me when he was 1 year old. I am now looking for a started lab for him.

Sports show

I just met some new folks from Watertown about a week ago at a sports show in Eau Claire. They told me that the hunting was really pretty fair in that area this last fall. They had a booth at the show and were advertising.

They must have been smoking something. To classify the hunting around here as fair would really be a stretch. There may be a few isolated spots with fair bird numbers but overall, within a 30 mile radius of Watertown, the numbers are terrible.

South Dakota

I wonder if it might have been better out around Peirre and along the Mossouri River,or has all of South Dakota been suffering from low numbers.

I'll be 63 by Fall hunting. Doing good:) I will hunt this Fall with the Montana Big Game Combination plus birds and waterfowl. 8-10 weeks in Montana.

After the really bad winter in 2010-2011 numbers were down in most of the state. Last winter (2011-2012) was super mild and numbers came back in a lot of the state but not to the previous levels. We have lost so much habitat in the past several years and that is also playing a role in declining numbers. Don't get me wrong, we still have some very good pheasant hunting in South Dakota.

I moved from Aberdeen to Watertown in Sept. 2011. My pheasant hunting really took a hit. Now in 2 seasons I doubt I've shot more than 3-4 pheasants within a 30 mile radius of Watertown. You need to get west of Clark and out in the Redfield area to start seeing some decent numbers.

I don't really keep up on the sharptail numbers but I would guess the weather and loss of habitat has not effected them like it has pheasants. To find sharpies you have to get out closer to the Missouri River and west of the Might Mo. Perhaps someone else on this site can give you a better report on Sharpies.
