headed to nw mo thurs night

I am going to nw mo leaving thursday night ive heard good things in the nw part of mo, got some private land and wanting to check out some other ca areas this area brings back memories of my dad and me 20 years ago:)I really dont care if i do any good or not i would love to get into quail but it dont matter. Kansas on the other hand i turn into a fire breathing machine for some reason i mean business there and want to smoke everything that flys lol

I'm leaving Raymore at 4:30 and headed northwest. If its worth a crap I will go back same time Saturday morning.

I will be in Harrison SAT AND ATCHISON CO. SUNDAY. hope we all have a great time. I'll try to post how I did

Well i went to bilby fri where a friend of mine on here suggested he told me right where to go where he had found birds since i had never hunted this area, i arrive there about 7 and there were 3 cars already there lol so i move just down the road a mile made a huge circle and nothing but i have to sasy one of the best looking ca i have ever seen i was hoping to hear some crowing nothing as well,so i said i had better go to my private land and got into one covey of birds dogs did a really good job with lots of points end of day one with 3 quail didnt see any roosters. Day two i went to another public spot in the nw part of the state which i wont mention i did much better killeed a rooster right off the bat and then got into a covey of quail moved to a different location and got into a huge covey but flew onto private rats!!!!!I forgot to mention bilby had so many huntere there thursday ive never seen so many bird hunters in one area glad i left wow!!!!So about 2oclock on sat i switch to another public spot and saw a standing corn spot and had heavy weeds in it walked in and cackle cackle boom a limit of two cocks wow kinda hard to do i would say.Day 3 hunted until eleven dogs are wore out got into one covey of quail some reason birds were not holding but it was fine just wild spooky public birds, all in all i was pleased with mo huinting lots of quail On a rain out from work i know where i will be heading cmon rain, cold weather snow, feeling sick:)

sat moring, 2min out of the truck and 2 roosters up,didn't shoot. in the first 20 min got 3 end a nice covey of quail. quail wouldn't hold for point. only end up with one quail shoot over a nice point.
sat after noon move to a diff. spot. found 5 coveys:10sign: got a few points, but were acting like late dec. birds and the dog had a hard time finding dead birds, lost 3, grass just too dry.
sun saw 2 roosters run across the road as we pull up, ended up killing 4 found 3. the last one was a 20 yd going away shoot, birt when down hard, but the dogs didn't get a mark on it and we couldn't find it. also so got into 3 covets of quail. best 2 days I have had in a long long time. hoping the rest of the is 1/2 this good

i know sadie im telling you ive heard good things about nw mo ,heck the way ks is dry and no cover and no birds might just spend more time in mo because there is plenty of cover in the nw part and theres a few birds quail that is

I noticed nice thick cover as well. Will try KS this weekend then may just work in MO more this year.

EXactly why make it hard the reports in ks is dry dusty when you walk ,no cover heck in mo theres cover not as dry and theres a few birds plus save on gas money drive 2hrs instead of 5 not seeing hardly any roosters but i love the quail the best anyway tell you the truth im impressed with mo for once.

South of St Joe is not very good for the pheasants but would be better for Quail. HWY 36 and north is the line for pheasants but there may pockets of birds south also.

I hunt NE of Syt. Joe and went again this week and found a few pheasants and a couple covies of quial. Still crops in so I hope it gets beeter as the crops get out and it gets colder. Alot of cover were I hunt.

Thanks Zeepo. I'm new to the KC area and looking forward to walking some CA over the next couple of weeks.

Pony express is not a bad place to go, also try the areas managed for ducks and hunt in them also. Use steel shot but at Bob Brown and Nodaway valley there can be some good hunting for quial and pheasants there.

Hunted east of St. Joe Saturday and shot a brace of quail. No pheasants were seen. Weather was beautiful about 30 degrees with some frost which helped the dog. 2 points - 1 covey with about 12 birds and the GWP pointed a small re-covey of about 4-5 birds. Another covey busted wild 100 yards in front of both myself and the dog, about 15 birds in that covey.

We had some trouble with the singles as there was very little wind to help the dog. Also, both points were over very closely held birds - which I found a bit unusual.

Great Day! Thank Zeepo for the CA recommendations.
