I have a family member who all their life chased the all mighty dollar, everything else be damned. Now they are late in life and look around and have nothing of real value.

Me too. I have a brother in law that probably has .90 cents of the first dollar he ever earned. My wife’s sister has been miserable for forty years because he won’t spend money on anything. Now he is a millionaire many times over but enjoys little because he has always been afraid for the future. He had her driving an unsafe vehicle with a rusty frame. My wife and I are not rich by any stretch. We saved over the years, but enjoyed things and took vacations. I have put on a huge 4th of July party for years and his kids travel from California every year to be a part of it. I know it kills him to watch me burn some money. Why make it if you can’t enjoy some of it.

Fear pervades many minds and really reduces quality of life. Some people who aren’t “able bodied” refer to those of us who are as a “TAB” (temporarily able bodied)…while we are able bodied, and can actually do things, we should…lots of time for living in the past and being regretful once we can’t get around! No better use of $ than going bird hunting with a good gun and a great dog and maybe a friend or two. No regrets here about the $…I love the intensity, the awareness, the focus, the exhilaration…so much emotion, for me, at least!!!

He really makes me sad and is a drag to be around. He has a highly stressful job for a government contractor. Lots of travel, stress and deadlines often including 70 hour weeks. I made a decision to get out of the BS about four years ago. I make half the money and work a third of what I once did. I love what I do and doubt I will ever fully retire. I have a schedule that allows me to take off when I want with a couple weeks notice. I was miserable and now am very lucky. Money ain’t everything
