new upland vest

If you want to look cool kiui now has a traditional game vest. I have some of their stuff , their gators and a couple of regular vests.. It’s good stuff . I’d like a pair of their gloves. That stuff is so overpriced it’s somewhat easier to pull the trigger if you catch it on sale. I may just do that if they still have a pair my size come next sale. Their strap vest is supposed to be nice but strap vests really are a pain in the ass if you are spot hopping in and out of the truck.

Jim the kuiu bird pack need serious consideration, it’s made for large birds, some water storage, simple design. Price point is reasonable compared to some of the other high end packs. My dad and brother run one, both are happy so far.

One of the downsides to strap vests is they take up a lot of room in the backseat or in the house. But the open backs you can pack a lot of shit in them when you loading from the house . Fewer trips to the truck.

I use a water bladder in the back of mine for the dogs on warm days. When it’s full, plus a couple roosters in the bag, that Filson is definitely heavy. I do like the way it functions however. I have had to sew up the shell pockets, as over time, they have worn through…
I have tried using a water bladder, but it is just too heavy. I have a water bottle I keep in the game pocket, but it is a PIA to get in and out to water the dog.

The final rise and Pyke are made in America if that’s a concern.
I don't know anything about where Final Rise is made, but I'd double check your info on Pyke.

When Pyke first came out that guy was all over the podcast circuit pimping his gear and that it was all made in America. I'm sure it was at first. I mentioned the "made in America" thing to a couple of my buddies when we were talking gear. (For what it's worth, all 3 of my buddies now wear Pyke's Dakota pants, as do I. Best brush pants I've ever had.) One of them pointed out to me that his were very clearly marked "made in Vietnam." I checked mine, which were a year or two older, and they were also made in Vietnam. Maybe the vests are made in the USA, but the at least the Dakota pant isn't.

***Edited to add: Pyke's website says both of their vests are made in the USA. No such claim is made for the pants.***

I bought the final rise and the Kuiu. I prefer the Kuiu. It’s a bit cheaper than final rise if you can believe that. Prefer it mainly because of storage/zippers/pockets. I run, jump, fall down quite a bit. Always carry cable cutters, occasionally beef jerky/candy bars, pouch of chew, gloves. Final Rise just lacks a way to secure these items but I think you can buy an add on for this. You can wear either in the truck if you want, I do sometimes. You can also extend game bag out for easier loading. Both are quality but I prefer Kuiu

The kuiu is all made in china at least when I checked. The final rise is made in Utah. It used to be the owner and his wife made everything. Now I think he just hunts and goes to trade shows and employees make the stuff. Pyke still makes a lot of stuff in a rented garage in spring Lake Michigan. He has a yard sale in the spring I’ve been there. Walls of cloth and sewing machines. I think the pants became so popular they couldn’t keep up. Brent the owner of Pyke is a great guy. He was president of the ruff grouse society in west Michigan . He is also a generous donor for our Pf chapter. We belong to the same gun club and hunting club. He does a lot of things for the youth at the club. He was a realtor I am a builder. I knew him before he started the business. He told me he was going to start his own upland clothing line.. I thought ya go for it Brent. He really had a good vision, he worked very hard to get it off the ground. It’s refreshing to see someone start something from the ground up and make it work.

Marsupial is made in phoenix. Pretty cool story. He managed a sew shop doing contract work building packs for some of the big players. He and his wife were also sewing bino packs at their home at night and shipping them out during their spare time until they got their own business off the ground.
T&k is made in rapid city, he seems like a stand up guy and open to suggestions. I think round two of his vests are going to be even better.
I like both of them. I probably wear the marsupial a little bit more. I’m like goose if I’m not going to run into anyone and need to be seen I don’t want to be seen. All the extra pouches add up to extra weight , but the belt carries it well.
The t&k is light! , It hinges well. Loads easy.. I don’t think you have to carry as much weight on your hips. If you’re not into cinching your waist belt down tight you can carry some of the weight on your shoulders and it’s still comfortable.
