Tastiest Big Game

What's the tastiest big game animal? I've only had whitetail deer from Iowa but I love it. Do Mulies taste like white tails? How many pounds of meat do you get off an elk or moose? Out of the deer I got steaks, brats, ring bologna, breakfast sausage, jerky, deer sticks, hamburger. Are there other things can make out of deer?

Most folks ain't gonna believe it, but I like antelope. Young doe speedgoats are awesome. Next would be elk and they pack a ton of groceries on their bones.

Have a Good 'Urn,
bones

Something I have never had and most likely will never get to try. Wild Sheep meat. Unquestionably the finest wild meat on the planet. Many folks claim you will never try any because they eat it all before they come out of the bush.

I here mt lion is very good, the other other white meat.

Nothing has compared to the moose I shot about 10 years ago. Absolutely the best. When I would make a roast everyone honestly thought it was beef. I've eating a lot of antelope, venison and elk but them moose was by far the best.

While I think bison are great I really don't consider bison "wild game" as they are all commercially raised. Oh sure, their are large herds still grazing on the prairie but they are not "free range" and wild like deer, elk and moose.

I have always heard the same, particularily sheep ribs. But I thought the reason they ate them up on the summit was because it was such an ass numbing drudge getting them off the mountain! I think my high country sheep days are over.

Really? I always thought a big horn would taste like mutton. Maybe saying it was eaten on the mountain is the nice way of saying they just caped it out and left the rest on the mountain for the lions.

Mine too. That's why we raise a half Doz. lambs every year to butcher. It's as close to the wild ones I'll ever get now. 6 lambs coming in the spring.

I had Bighorn, I remember it being good. And yeah hunters do like to eat it on the mountain. :)
Bison is same as a poor grade of beef. Really! Ground and seasoned makes it OK.
Rutted out Bull Elk are worse yet.
Cows and calves and young pre rut bull Elk are good eating.
Black Bear, most people I know think it's great.
Moose are good.
Mule Deer and White Tail that have been well fed and cared for properly are equal.
Doe and fawn antelope are good, those old bucks, welllll:eek: gonna need some help.

I agree, I have ate everything mentioned in the thread and the Moose was tops to me followed by Elk. Bear, yuk:D been there and did not care for it at all. LOL the rest, well all about the same. Back straps are always the best and the tenderloins.

I've had sheep a long time ago and it is fantastic. It does not taste that much like lamb, which I really like also. At $11.00 a lb. for shoulder steak I am not eating any currently. Will probably never have wild sheep again.

Good elk is great, but it really depends on the animal you shoot.
Ishoot a yearling corn feed whitetail doe in my backyard every year, and have all but the loins and some flat steaks off the rump for chix fried ground up the next day with 10% beef suet. About as good as anything and I just ate some last night.

My west river deer go to the sausage factory!

Seriously?? You must have gotten a bad sample. The Grass fed Bison that I have eaten puts any beef to shame. Not to mention that it's leaner than venison.

But those are just my taste buds talkin.....

I like Bison burger and summer sausage but it's a bit tough for any other thing. Maybe a good roast slow cooker.

interesting- the butcher shop in Desoto, Kansas sold(might still I haven't checked) butcherd Bison-
no way would I consider it in the class with good beef- such as Prime or Choice- suppose it could match up with select

btw- have you been arround a couple being butchered- to say it's leaner than venison

What you need is a tri pod with a large cast iron kettle to get a good stew going with several types of meat in it.Went to a cook out where the guy put 4 kinds of meat and all kinds of veggies and let it cook for 4 hours before he served it.
