snuck out for a couple hours before the daughter got home from work and came home frustrated as heck.

ended up coming upon a rooster and shot behind him. we looked for a while but the dog at this point was pretty tired, so i went to a watering hole, let him relax a bit and headed back. I found some blood and looked down and I was pretty much standing on the bird. I thought it was dead, so I decided to wait for the dog to work his way back to me so I could let him get excited.

as soon as the dog got close, the bird looked at me and turned into an olympic track star! i probably looked funny as hell trying to keep up to him. We were in some thick stuff.

the dog tracked him for around a half hour, but I had to get home so I called him off and we went home.

nice guys finish last i guess. should have just grabbed the thing when i saw it. :(

to make things even better, my dog is a wreck. as mentioned we were in some pretty thick cover and he looked like Rocky Balboa. i washed him up but I predict a vet trip tomorrow if the swelling around his eyes doesn't let up.

Sometimes there is comedy in the field! Had a guy find a wounded one that my dog was pointing. Told him to let the dog get it. Before I could release the dog the guy jumped on it and the match was on. When he got up you could see he didn't fare well. Bleeding from his head and hands as the rooster put on a good show. Next time I bet he won't do that! Hope Pup is o.k.!!

yeah, i was almost on my hands and knees trying to duck under branches. the dog came over and probably thought " ".

oh well...win some, lose some. the up side is that I coyote hunt in the area, so maybe it will serve as dinner.
