snuck out for a couple hours before the daughter got home from work and came home frustrated as heck.
ended up coming upon a rooster and shot behind him. we looked for a while but the dog at this point was pretty tired, so i went to a watering hole, let him relax a bit and headed back. I found some blood and looked down and I was pretty much standing on the bird. I thought it was dead, so I decided to wait for the dog to work his way back to me so I could let him get excited.
as soon as the dog got close, the bird looked at me and turned into an olympic track star! i probably looked funny as hell trying to keep up to him. We were in some thick stuff.
the dog tracked him for around a half hour, but I had to get home so I called him off and we went home.
nice guys finish last i guess. should have just grabbed the thing when i saw it.
to make things even better, my dog is a wreck. as mentioned we were in some pretty thick cover and he looked like Rocky Balboa. i washed him up but I predict a vet trip tomorrow if the swelling around his eyes doesn't let up.
