Gas prices….

Why can't you control your insurance, property taxes, or utility bills?

Well, maybe not "control" but you can certainly go about reducing them in a specific manner, just like looking for cheaper priced gas.
Because of my wife, we keep our house at 65…I’d probably go 67-68, she overheats…she’s a stripper, 25 years my junior, and she’s always on one of the 4 poles, and she gets hot, even though she’s in a bikini…she was Miss Ontario a few years ago, smuggled her down here via Quetico/BWCA…she’s tiny, fit in a Duluth Pack…her only request was that I feed her pheasant…I never asked why, something about her daily ration of cock…one type or another, she insists…ok, I’ll do my best! I need to get a few dozen more in the next 5 weeks…

Drove to Mpls from Duluth, feeding my 94 year old mom a frosty, regular food wasn’t getting in her mouth…nursing home…went through this with my dad the last 15 months, he passed 9/3/25 at 95. No matter what, time flies…I’m going back out hunting as soon as I can…hope you all can get out and do the things you love for many years, decades, etc…happy holidays! 🎄🍻✝️🎅🏼🤩

I know many in the nursing home my father is in. I stop every morning before work and almost everyday after work and try to get in once on the weekends. The home is just another community, most everyone in there likes a bit of attention. Some want to have deep conversations and others just an acknowledgement from you. Over the past 2 plus years, I can think of just 3 employees that have been there since my father's admission. A tough place to work, tougher place to live, I am sure. A lot of folks have come and gone in his time (workers and residents). I did run into a HS classmate this past weekend, I hadn't seen him for maybe 5-6 years, his father has been in there for 3+ years 😞. You do run into some interesting folks there. There was one old boy that told me about the government giving out shotgun shells for shooting pheasants eating the corn after planting back it in the 1940s. There is a fella that sitting by my father in the dining hall that worked for the state or county that has a farm with some awesome habitat, he had put that in maybe 40 years ago, I never knew who owned it. He had a back surgery and is in for recovery, guessing in his 70s, he is or was a PF guy & pheasant hunter also. Still doesn't let folks hunt it. Make the most of your visits b-b, just imagine yourself in here. Witnessing this everyday is one of those things that makes you hope for the heart attack, deep in the field, while hunting pheasants.

Yes! It’s grim, for sure…my mom is getting very close…been there 7.5 years now…had some modest quality of life for a few years, but not much at all the past 5 years…ugh! My dad was lucky, about a year and he died…they were divorced, different facilities, but kinda near each other…yes, puts life in perspective…I choose to spend my time and $ in meaningful ways…☮️🍻🥳

I burn more diesel fuel than gas. I have a new electric caddy for the gofer stuff. I hunt with a motor home pulling a jeep. I have an open road discount fuel card like the truckers use. Saves me 50cents to a buck per gallon. I’ve been pretty blessed with the financial situation matters not to me if gas/fuel is 1$ or 10$ would not change what I do. I like 1$ better but less competition at 10$ especially on the water. I recall one summer gas took a big jump no water skiers no jet skies. It was wonderful. If I spend a little less on fuel that leaves a little more I can spend on other things like my grandchildren college tuition. If it makes people less grumpy that’s a good thing to. Trouble is so many will just blow it on other things like lottery tickets or tattoos, booze drugs. It’s depressing.

Heading back to Duluth yesterday after Xmas gathering in twin cities, I stopped in fridley, mn to gas up and grab a coffee…stood behind several folks who were buying cigs, lottery tix, etc…kind of ghetto area to a degree….declined to proselytize to the customers what $12 a day for cigs would do over 30 years in a low-cost index fund…the gal right in front of me had her card declined, dude had to come in and bail her out…yeah, different life…they’d probably laugh at my life…😂

b-b, in the Christmas season of giving and you didn't step-up and cover her purchase? A couple weeks ago your philanthropy skills were woven through-out your posts. What happened with this opportunity?

I know exactly how you feel, my mom has been in one for 9 years. 😐

Actually, I was next in line, but I forgot why I stopped in there…OW-20 synthetic oil, so I let her go ahead of me and I went looking for oil, which they didn’t have…I returned to the line, and was inferring what was going on, despite cultural and language barriers…thought about it, but was observing the totality of what was going on in the store, and that’s when her dude came in and took care of matters…my son works at a lifetime fitness a block away, we had stopped there to see him and drop off some goodies, as he didn’t make it to the gathering…learning from him about the neighborhood…no real issues from his point of view, just differences…just like you, I’m sure, I’ll help anyone in need, and I do it a lot…more challenging in certain situations, like when you’re not sure about your personal safety…need anything Remy? I’ll have to ship it or Venmo it…my kids help me with the latter. The young guy I met on the side of the gravel road while hunting in SD has become a friend, have had some great interaction with him since then…will host him again next season. Same with MattD’s good friend from Pittsburgh who hunted with me as he traveled through SD and was heading up to the Northern part of the state to connect with Matt and the others…great guy, and dog! Happy to help…enjoy it…cooking pheasant this morning in fact from my last trip and bringing it to a friend whose house (shack, actually) burned down 2/9/25…lives very simply, new place is about done, and he’s in it now…no insurance $, gofund me about covered it…he’s a fantastic craftsman, as is his stepbrother who he’s been living with 1/4 mile away…the guy who lost his house is a real character, super guy…bachelor, no kids…no plumbing or running water in the shack that burned, by design…beautiful sauna, cool outhouse…suspect the new place is the same…haven’t been up there for about 2 months…different way of life, always envied him in a lot of ways…gonna start cooking…it’s my standard sautéed onion, celery, carrot, garlic, mushroom, dry sherry, herbs de Provence, black pepper, cream of mushroom soup, chunked pheasant, baked slow at 275 for about 2 hours, then add cooked wild rice and fold in a healthy amount of sour cream…top with healthy amount of smoked paprika. Pretty good, nobody refuses it…think I covered it all. 🎅
