Guns you guys would like to see at a PF Banquet

Hey just wondering what guns you guys & gals would like to see at a PF Banquet? I know I prefer to go to a banquet that has a nice gun selection to try and win. Our chapter has tried to make a appealing list to everyone with nice shotguns and rifles with a couple hand guns mixed in. Just wondering what some of the guns you would like to see at your local banquet?

Kimber 16 gauge Valier Gradein SxS or Kimber Marias Grade o/u in 20 gauge. There is a couple to start you off.

well set up predator/varmint guns. Not just the gun but a nice scope as well. Otherwise a guy has a nice gun but has to drop a bunch of coin to make it fully functional. Most wont and will end up selling the gun IMO.

A nice condition 12 gauge Browning Superposed Lightning, pre-63, 26" and M - F, if I had my druthers.

I'd rather view a variety of used classic scatterguns, of several action types, rather than the latest unproven models which all have the same sparkly, cloned look that one sees at every banquet from RGS to DU to RMEF to NWTF to...PF and beyond.

You Sir, have impeccable taste. Classic guns all the way.

We actually have a DPMS AR-15 .223 this year in snow camo with a nice nikkon scope and folding legs, lperfect varmit gun!! And a nice .243 with a scope also. I love older guns, but the only problem is they are used and alot of people don't want to win a used gun. I agree though I would live to see a mint condition old A-5 or old Citori with the really light wood.

I understand...each to their own.
I know kids especially like that stuff.
However, I wouldn't own an AR platform rifle of any brand...with any paint job.:)
Nor would I donate a sou to a raffle with one in the mix....or the latest wonder scattergun, for that matter.
Be like wearing one of those ballcaps with the bill annoyingly set in that perpetual horseshoe shape....too much like a hunting uniform.
Getting to be a lot of Stepford Hunters out there.

You might be surprised tho what trying to be a bit different in a banquet would elicit.
May not work twict but once and with a chosen gun or two...eh, could well trip someone's trigger and a billfold would flop open like...an old Superposed.

Good Luck.

For our banquet this year and last year we have tried to have a good group of guns and a nice selection of different types and makers. this year we have 19 total and a couple of those are really nice 20ga's for women and youth also a mix of rifles, shotguns both auto, o/u, and pump with a couple being combo guns with slug and turkey barrels. Our chapter isn't afraid to spend money on guns if it is something people will like and donate to the PF cause to try and win them. We are always trying to find new guns that people would be interested in winning, hence the reason for the thread. Thanks for the thoughts, keep em coming.

i like to see nice shotguns. i won a browning gold hunter a few years ago. kept that gun. i only keep the nice guns i have won that i can actually use. i sell the limited edition ones to buy what i want. won a mossberg 22 tactical set up like an ar-15 tonight at an nwtf banquet. i will keep that one to plink with my nephews and nieces. would LOVE to see some of the old classics like a browning sweet 16 or an ithica model 37 on a raffle.

I've always looked at shotguns as more of a tool to get the job done, probably because they are used more often. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into a fine double barrel.
But what really gets me excited are tack driving rifles. Custom shop guns that are out of reach today, but have been on a the bucket list for a number of years. A few of my examples: Kimber, Hill Country, Robar, Mauser 98. In the AR platform Dtech. I'm sure we all have our own list, rifle or shotgun. But if you could somehow tap into it you might have something.
A lot folks out there spending good money twice a week on powerball.

Several of the various events I've attended had a large number of guns, but the quality was often lacking. They'd have a synthetic stocked Marlin .22 and a Mossberg Maverick shotgun for example. If I was buying guns, I'd never even look at those. Often times it appears that the cheapest, most base model of a gun was bought, just so the 'numbers' would be there.

I wouldn't hesitate at all if it was a used gun that I wanted. Of all the guns in my safe, most were bought used. Not a bad one in the bunch. Its hard to make a gun go bad.

For a .22, I'd start with a CZ 452 and go up from there. For shotguns, skip over the 870 Express and go to an 870 Wingmaster. For rifles, skip the Savage 110 and get a new Ruger Hawkeye or Winchester 70 Featherweight. I myself like oddball, classic calibers. Don't do the .243 WSSM, do the .257 Roberts. Don't do the Ruger #1 in .30-06, do it in .300 H&H.

Everybody will have a different opinion and not everybody will ever be happy. :)

(Your smiley face noted)

Dad turns 60 next year and has a safe full of quality bolt guns, classics, wood stocked, etc. Two weeks ago he got all the parts put together for his first AR. A Rock River Arms Coyote Rifle upper on a DPMS stripped lower, RRA 2-stage trigger and RRA skeletonized fixed stock (forget the name). He shot it with 3 different bullets and 2 different powders. Biggest group of the 3 was .280" center to center.

Yeah, its different, yeah, its a little heavier than his usual calling rifle, but its danged accurate and going to be fun calling coyotes with.

If I were bidding I'd be most interested in guns with that are useful for hunting, but not something you can run out and find at your local big box store. Maybe a high condition Browning BSS (SxS), ole Old Dublin's Superposed, Ruger #1 in 7x57, guns with a bit of class. Others will want black guns. I have no problem with that. You're trying to raise money.

It's a tough question because we are all so different in our backgrounds and we have a wide interpretation of what "appealing" is. Good luck!

At least 1 O/U shotgun or good semiauto shotgun. The PF Banquet I
attend gives away alot of 12 ga 870 Express shotguns.

Side by sides. I'd like to win one in the gun drawing.

I agree with this and the previous poster who said that he didn't want somethng he could run out and buy in a big box store. Personally, I already have functional guns for deer, pheasants, etc,. They are not real pretty aesthetically, but get the job done.

To drop money on raffle tickets, I would want to win something unique that I don't have already. I wouldn't be attracted to any entry-level guns, because I've already upgraded and not interested in going back. Youth and ladies models would be great though. I would be happy re-gifting.

A couple SxS shotguns, I would be all over that. And used guns would be fine by me as long as they were in good condition. Just so long as it is something that my buddies would drool over when I show it to them. That's the main criteria.:D

It's tough to appeal to a broad audience though.

Although it isn't a gun... A hand-carved bow would be really cool too. Recurve or long bow, with some feather-fletched arrows. I can't justify the expense of buying one, because I already have a deer-getter, but I would drop a few bucks on raffle tickets. If I won it, I would show it off to everybody I know, thus advertising next year's banquet.

Maybe the theme for me would be, "Stuff I would really like to have but don't 'need'"...:D

IMO, a lot of the guns I see at these events are cheap entry level, youth or guns that IMO some gun shop was looking to unload because they have sat on the shelf for way too long. Thus, unpopular model's. The guy looking to spend some money on a ticket in most cases has already surpassed those entry level guns and is looking for something a little nice, something the old boys in the hunting party go Gaga over. 870 expresses and Benelli Nova's I have ZERO interest in, NO MUZZLE LOADERS!! either. My brother inlaw has won a truck load of these entry level and youth guns. I don't believe a single one has been fired. They just sit in the safe collecting dust. In fact, I believe he has even quit attending these event because of the lack of wanting to spend anymore money on tickets to win these types of guns. I realize getting donations and gathering prizes is a big challenge. I realize these raffles have to achieve the price of the gun and still make a profit too. Just my two cents.

I agree on the better gun thing and our banquet always has a banquet gun in the $1000 to $1200 class and a gun of the year in the $1500 class and we have no trouble selling tickets for these better class of guns:cheers:

Just thought of something else. A local company (actually, they just shut down their local operations, but have others around the country) has a group of guys that always had a gun raffle every year, can't remember what the proceeds went to, but it was a 'charitable' cause of some sort.

Anyways, there was always 5 guns in the raffle, winner take all.

Browning autoloader .22 rifle
Browning Buckmark .22 pistol (one of the upper end ones)
Browning O/U shotgun
Browning autoloader shotgun
Browning A-bolt rifle of varying caliber depending on year.

I think they limited it to 1,000 tickets and they cost $20 each. (numbers could be off on that, but tickets were limited, costs weren't $1 each)

They always sold all their tickets and had a pretty good chunk of change to donate to their cause. I never won, but had a friend that did one year. They'd hold their raffle at various events throughout the year, county fair, arts and crafts festival, homecoming events, etc until the tickets ran out.
